I'm hoping to have SRS by my next birthday (march 2014)

This whole process has been so amazing, and now that I know what I need to be whole - there is no reason to delay. I want to live as the woman I am as soon as possible. So I am trying to figure out a way to fund this incredible cost, but still deciding on a surgeon.

I feel like Suporn or Brassard are the best, from what I have seen of results and read about experiences. But I want to ask you ladies if I am missing some strong candidates.

I have researched

1. Christine Mcginn
2. Marci Bowers
3. Toby Meltzer
4. Suporn
5. Pierre Brassard

I realize there are a lot more surgeons in the world - but these names seem to be the most popular/renowned/experienced of the bunch. Some of Mcginn's work on her website looks very strange to me, but some of her other work looks wonderful. Anyway, I may have to have this surgery in the US (where I live) but I want to go wherever I will get the best results, of course.

So...if I am able to go abroad for the surgery

Brassard or Suporn?

if I have it done domestically, Christine Mcginn is the only surgeon I think I would want to work on me in this country. However, I have read a horror story from one of her patients online - but how do you know if this person isn't just high drama and irresponsible with aftercare? Or is Mcginn a strong enough candidate over Suporn or Brassard regardless of their locales?

I know this is my decision, but I really need some insight from you lovely ladies. Of course I am looking for what we are all looking for in terms of results aesthetic, sensation, functionality....

if I had to prioritize the three...I don't know if I can, they are all essential to a successful procedure. Talk to me!

You ask a very pertinent question. I can't say what is right or wrong in this case. I can, however, encourage you to invest wisely in yourself and book a consultation with the woman. You'll find your answer there.

If I had to answer your question, in my humble opinion; yes she is more than capable of standing against those you mentioned. She's a woman, for a start.

It was 92 days ago that Marci Bowers did my surgery here on the other coast and I am happy as can be.  The fact the Chris McGinn is so close to you should be a consideration for you and both McGinn and Bowers actually like and work with each other some times.  My suggestion is that you wait a bit, and go to one of the major Transgender Conventions where McGinn, Bowers, Leis, and Meltzer do infomercials and mini consults, and line them up together.  I have both major and minor labia now which I would not have wilth McGinn (but she may change that) and I lived only 300 miles south of San Mateo CA, but they were pretty much tied from what we discussed, so geography won the coin toss.

Suporn will be very good if you are young (under 40) but he does use a much more invasive and suture laden technique.  He rejected me because of age and health issues.  Bowers and McGinn can deal with older U.S. patients because of proximity to care methods and standards that US citizens are used to. Again, my suggestion is to plan to get somewhere where you can talk to your U.S. surgeons all in one place.  Google Transgender Conferences for the one closest to you.  I actually think there is one in Penn in the next month or so.

Dr. McGinn gets my vote, as you know. Dr. Brassard and Dr.Bowers were also on my short list.

I did my due dillegance and did my research on the internet, asked opinions as you are doing, and spoke to Bowers and McGinn.  I felt complete confidence in Christine and Heather after spending over two hours talking (along with my wife) to them on my consult.

All I need to say about the quality of her work is that my gynecologist (and hormone) doc said when she examined me was "Incredible!  I wish mine looked that good." :)

I wish you the best with whomever you chose.

I had my SRS with Dr Suporn Dec, 2010.

I am happy with my results and felt totally taken care of during all aspects
of my time in Thailand.

I would be glad to share my experience.

On a partisan note, everyone here so far has been happy to recommend their own surgeons!!  Not saying we can be fair judges though, since none of us here have had SRS more than once to be able to compare the work of other doctors against each other in our own bodies!!  Said with tongue in cheek and a twinkle in the eye!!!

on another note I just went to my dr today, and had a full exam and blood work done, and she said for being 2 weeks out of surgery, that the work was very nice, and incredible, that the dr who did the work really knows what he is doing. Made me feel really good, she also noted depth was excelent as she maxed out the speculum.

I had my surgery with Dr Chettawut and I am super happy with every aspect of it. When I was searching for the doctor i realized that everything is individual and it all depends on your expectations. Suporn is a very good doctor even though I believe that he is overadvertised and with well endowed patients he is having a very high complications rate due to not removing the entire penis with his technique. He also has a very high revisions rate and high early complications rate. Christine was one of my options but i preferred non inversion technique because I was after good depth. I think that the Canadian team is a very good option considering all the aspects of the surgery. I think that Meltzer is overpriced and his technique is outdated. Because of some reason I never liked Bowers even though she has a very good reputation.
In order to find the best option for you consider all the aspects of the technique used by the doctor and compare it to your expectations. Also make sure to ask the doctor about his expectations in your specific case as we are all individual.

I tend to think all the top surgeons are a good choice, and it comes down to secondary variables like cost, location, and personal medical issues (McGinn has a BMI limit, Brassard won't take insulin-dependent diabetics, etc.).

For the record, I went to Brassard and am very happy. The aftercare was excellent, *everything* was included in the price, and I am sensate, orgasmic, 5.5" depth and by 4 months my local doctor could only distinguish that it was a surgical vagina by some healing internal scar tissue (and needed a speculum to see that).

Thank you all for your helpful advice!!!

I have switched gears a bit since starting this thread and am now quite certain I want to go to Mcginn.

I live in NYC and that is only 2 hours driving distance from New Hope where she works in PE. I think that she is the best decision for me for many reasons, but the fact that she is so close is definitely important. I understand people travel great distances for this surgery all the time, but the fact that I don't have to and I can see one of the top surgeons in the field is really awesome. I also didn't factor in the fact she is a woman and transgender herself. That is actually hugely important to me. I can not imagine anyone I would like to do my surgery more than a trans woman herself. I am going to do intake with her and schedule a consultation soon...

I am really excited! I  am hoping to have my surgery in the fall, and at this point it really seems possible. I am doing a fundraiser for the surgery in June and my Boss at work told me that the business I would for wuld love to support it and donate to the cause. They have been so amazing about all of this and are trying to help me get this surgery. I also know a lot fo artists and musicians and a few who are in popular bands here in new york agreed to play a benefit sho to help me raise money...its so cool how much community is coming together to support me on this. I feel very lucky...

On that point alone; I know you won't be disappointed.

I have the greatest admiration and respect for this woman. If she asks for 5, she get 6. If she asks for 8 she gets 12 as far as I'm concerned.

Enjoy the utter experience

Hi There Girls !

Well I wait 2 years almost to have  a very well definition of what a top surgeon can be , and which to pick,
definitely each of them according to their pics and results and explanations are very professionals, beautiful looking results,
and what makes it much more complicate to  do the right choice is that every one talks so good on their reccomendations.

As well each one talks in different ways, about their surgeon, some had some minor complications , some got more pain than others , and even some girls say not  pain at all !
My thoughts of course got mixed up with all these opinions and comments.
In My case, at the end , I defined that the top Surgeon for me, will be Dr. Chettawutt. I had friends that make their SRS with him, and in analysis, and following up every day after surgery it seems to be a perfect and Top surgeon. I am sure that I have no mistaken my choice.
My SRS will be held on May 24, I'm just 13 days to go to Thailand, its very exiting all this, the blood tests and letters  and X ray , and all my  pre-op procedures are done and ready to go.

As a personal comment I wish to add that I did a complete research about every surgeon doing SRS  in the planet, it was tuff to make a right decision but to each and every one who is minding to do SRS I reccomend to follow  some basic parameters :

Surgeon
Comments about him
distance from Home
Costs,
Aesthetics,, ( considering results posted on their own web and from other patients)
Technique , 1st second 3rd or 4/5th generation, penile, non penile, skin graft, recovery stages and Timing.
your Age!
your Expectations
and think twice why this technique, and surgeon and advantage on the rest , pretty much draw your own comparison table.

In Addition, you should question your self about  having this surgery, you will have a Vagina, as  any other woman, you must be aware of things that you will not have in an SRS  , like a self and proper lubrication, like you must dialate constantly,, are you going to have sex intercourse with a man? or just with other girls,, both are valid and very personal, But this surgery as well has its own limitations.
Our new Vagina, will not be able to accept big guys inside ,, but yes an average one.

Well, in the coming days after SRS , I will be posting here , I think it will be very helpful for many Girls.
Wishing you all a total success in your choice , and a happy life!

I had SRS with Toby Meltzer over three years ago.  I have never had the dilation issues I hear so often from other women.  Orgasms took me a while to learn, both they are pretty amazing now.  My wife is a CIS female and she loves my pussy, so that is all that matters to me.  I think that McGinn has a good reputation, but Meltzer was in AZ which made sense for me and my recovery. He  has the experience and a really good staff.
