Al Franken, the U.S. Senator from Minnesota says that it's insane that workplace discrimination against trans people isn't illegal and is something that should have been done about it long ago.

Franken points out that in a dozen states it is actually legal to fire someone because they are trans or LGBT. Contrast this with current laws that prevents discrimination against employees involving race, gender, or disabilities. Franken argues 'why should it be legal for gender identity (or gender expression) and sexual orientation be cause for someone losing their job?

Franken has taken a very public and visible stand on the matter even though the state he represents already has a trans and LGBT workplace rights law on the books. Sen. Franken believes such a law should be extended for all 50 states.
