It comes from what is meant behind the censorship. If Laura's Playground says "->-bleeped-<-" is bad, then "f'ck" and "f**k" and other equivalents are probably not going to be any better. The way I understand the situation, it made the moderators think she was mocking the rules and using censorship to be "disrespectful". You know, like, how irritating it can get if you tell a child not to step past a line, and they lean their body as far as possible over the line, saying "I'm not stepping over it!" That might be what it is here. Or maybe simply that they have an unexplainable aversion for bad words. I'll never understand that. Like how in some shows they "beep" out bad words. You know full well what they said; you're just on top annoyed by that unnatural sound.
In their defense though I also do find "->-bleeped-<-" to be no less of a bad word than "->-bleeped-<-". If anything I prefer "->-bleeped-<-" because it's readable English and feels more honest and straightforward. I don't say much bad words because I feel they're disrespectful. But I dislike censorship very much because I think if you want to appear disrespectful, then you should be allowed to do so freely, as long as you don't step over the line of aggressing someone.
As a side note, has anyone else been severely annoyed by automatic censorship in games? Sheesh, they should understand already that it's humanly impossible to make a censorsip system that just works. No one can think of every possible variation of f0k and $|-|1t that people will come up with anyway.
Like how they decide that "damn" is suddenly a bad word of the same level as "->-bleeped-<-", and when you say "Damn you!" it comes out as "**** you!" leading to very frustrating misunderstandings. ("Damn you" is often playful, mild or sarcastic, while "->-bleeped-<- you", except in especially badmouthed people, is usually a very strong expression of annoyance.)
Funnily, in Dragon Nest, the engine is so stupid it'll take away "turd" (which I never knew was a word, much less a vulgar one!) from "sturdy", the game's name for Defense improving items, and "asses" from "classes". I've seen some bad things, like "douche" censored from a multi-language game even though in French it's "shower" ("I'm going to ******; see you later." - "Please don't tell me about your masturbatory habits."), as well as censoring "suck" (dunno about you, but to me, fellatios are pretty low on my list of possible meanings of "suck"), BUT not "sucks"... but Dragon Nest wins the award for censoring it's own game words.
vegie271: Haha, there is no computer in the world (or maybe there was in 1982) that needs a driver to display a picture, especially not when other images are visible~. Nah, either the poster messed the image embedding up, either the Susans mods thought it was inappropriate as well and removed it. I never saw it either.
