Hello Night Scream,

Welcome to Susan's.  I'm sure that you are going to find that we are a very friendly crowd so don't be afraid to join in the forums, posting your own topics and joining others.  Participation is one of the reasons Susan's so successful and a great place to be.  Be sure to read the rules, and check out the Wiki as you will find a lot of information there.

We have many who are CD here and I'm sure that they will recall their experiences and help you out when they see your post.  First off you should not be utterly embarrassed, as you are not doing anything to be embarrassed about, however I do know it's something that many have experienced and it's a hard emotion to shake.

One of the best way's to buy the cloths you are looking for is on-line.  It's quite anonymous and generally safe as long as you are careful with your financial information.  There is lots of information on sizing in the Wiki, and most of the major retail stores have web sites that include on-line shopping.  Also there is eBay, do a search there for your favourite clothing and you will be surprised at what is available.

Just a couple of points to get you going.

Chat later,

Steph

Hi Night Scream,

Firstly welcome to Susan's. As Steph said we are a friendly bunch. Now first thing take that panty and look at it. It is a piece of clothing. The root is cloth. That's right it is just a piece of cloth. Nothing to be embarassed about. If you look at clothing through history you will find some of the most outlandish costuming by todays standards that you could ever imagine. Who can begin to imagine what people will be wearing 20, 30, 50 or 100 years from now. But then what will that matter to you?

Clothes are just as much about who we are and what image we want to present to the world. Undergarments are a private world which no one knows about but you. Buying them is just a matter of not letting a sales person or other customers intimidate you.  Remember, with sales people you are the profit they are the overhead. With other customers, out spend them and see who gets all of the sales girls attention.

Don't be intimidated, intimidate!

Anyway, enough of my rant. Welcome. Fix yourself a cup of tea, or other relaxing beverage, sit down, take your shoes off and set a spell.

Good Journey,

Cassie

Hi Night Scream,

As I am too a CD who has experienced the fear of shopping I can tell you that it passes and that when you get past the fear you can learn to love the experience.

I can give you a plan that will make it easier. First you need to identify in your mind someone who is similar in size to you, you need to know thier hair colour and complexion, favourite colours and the like. This person can be your girlfriend sister whatever.

The point is if you are asked questions as to what the person who you are shopping for would like you have it covered. The best part of this approach is that you can ask those silly questions and can also look appropriately nervous. A little preparation makes all the difference.

Happy shopping and welcome to Susans.

Hi Night Scream,
First of all, Welcome to Susan's.   :)  There's plenty of information available here and even more caring people to help.

It sounds like that since you live with your parents you probably won't be able to receive pacakages.  Therefore, unless you invest in a PO Box, you probably won't be able to do much shopping online.

As Shelley pointed out, it is less intimidating to shop for clothes when you have something to tell the sales people (if they ask).  Depending on where you shop, you may have some odd looks or inquisitive people, but the more comfortable you are the easier it will be.

Here are 2 tips that may help.  First, if you have a close female friend that would be willing to assist you, have her do your shopping (this is what I do for my SO, Rachel).  It is best when they have a similar body build to yours and similar tastes; however that is not necessarily imperative.  As long as they know what you like and don't like they should be able to do fairly well in selecting items that you will love.   :)  Second, the more information that you have on your sizes the better (this goes for if you have a 'secret shopper' or not).  Here's a secret, women's clothes and sizes are possible one of the most convoluted system ever.  If you wear a size 12-14 in pant you will probably need a size 6 in underwear.  To any sane person that would not make any sense...but somehow this system still exists.  When you just start out you probably won't need to much information (undergarment sizes, pant size, shirt size) but as you progress you will find out another hidden truth...women's clothes makers have a sadist way of making sizes.  What would be a size 12 in Express pants is a size 10 at Old Navy and 14 at AE.

If you can't find a 'secret shopper', here's another rather timely suggestion.  During the holiday season many organizations do "wish trees" (we had them at my Church all the time).  Typically, you would receive a card with the individual's age and gender along with the Christmas gift that they would like to receive (usually undergarments, shirts, or perfume).  If questioned by the store clerk, just say that you are purchasing the items for an under privileged individual for Christmas (something that we should do anyways, but I digress).

I hope this helps.  Good luck with the shopping.  And again, welcome to Susan's.   :)

Welcome Nightscream.... :)

I know how you feel with the embarassed part. Definitely happens to most of us at least one time in our life...

You know what I also like to do? Shop someplace very far away from where you live, like an hour or two's drive. No one will know you where ever you are, and the chances that you will run into them later on and they remember you is absolutely minute....

Then just go for it. You are what you are, and like Cassie said in her ever infinite wisdom (love you Cass  8) ) , its just cloth. I use that idea too on myself. Made of the same stuff you wear as a guy, just colored and cut differently....

There isn't anything to be embarrassed about.... ;)
