Kia Ora,

Interesting... From beauty 'queen' to Buddhist monk-that's quite a commitment to undertake...It reminds me of a movie about a Tibetan Buddhist monk the movie was called Samsara ....

Wow

That was random.

Kia Ora Malachite,

I don't think it was random...

Like many Asian cultures that have been influenced by Confucianism[(90% of Thais are Buddhist, but Confucius's teachings have been blended into Thai culture]   'filial piety' is an important part of the family structure, and for many 'male' Thai children one of the most meritorious deeds they can do to honour their parents is to become a Buddhist monk...In many cases this happens when they are quite young and they do this for a few years before resuming their normal life...This benefits both the temple and the parents, the children get free board, food and education...

I guess in his case-the seed was planted a long time ago by his parents, but due to his past 'karma' he had to first experience life "Samsara" = "In Buddhism and Hinduism, the endless round of birth, death, and rebirth to which all conditioned beings are subject. Samsara is conceived as having no perceptible beginning or end. The particulars of an individual's wanderings in samsara are determined by karma!"

In 'some' forms of Buddhism, in order to achieve "enlightenment" they "believe" one must be reborn in the male form-their belief is that females can not become enlighten-which does not sit well with other Buddhists especially those who live in the West...

What a waste. He's so pretty.

Maybe he is gay and prefers the company of men to women?
;) :D

Kia Ora,

And judging by the Abbot comments I would say he's taken his vows in a temple where effeminate expression is frowned upon...

There was an article a while back where they were talking about the Abbots of certain temples who carry out a form of reparative therapy, on "Ladyboys" [Kathoey] ...

Metta Zenda :)

It sounds miserable. I'm sure he must be gay. That's the only reason a man would remain a man these days isn't it? In asian countries there is a lot of pressure for gay men to dress as women which is exactly the type of thing gay men HATE.
;) :D

Hi friends  :police:

The title of this topic is Former transsexual beauty queen becomes a monk

Making assumptions regarding this person's sexual preference does not add relevance to the discussion

Let's try to stay on topic here

Thank you

;) Perhaps this is an indication that life is a journey...with many twists and turns.  Nothing has to stay the same, nothing does.  I wonder what it must be like to live the life of both a male and a female?  There must be advantages there

Faty says that "

Tongue in cheek, I hope fatty.  The remark is very dismissive of those here who are, shall we say, part way along the gender continuum.
