Legging sizes.

Still do not know much about figuring out my size in women's clothing but to the point, I am trying to buy leggings and have no idea what size I need for them to be to fit me, I do not want them to be too tight or loose(normal I guess) but I have seen some where you can see the legs through them and I rather not have that at the moment.

So yes how do I work out what size I need and also sorry if I am being stupid it is all just very confusing.

I wish I knew. I tried buying leggings once (based on the apparent size), but when they got here they felt way too small.

Well I found two sets on ebay that seem identical one would be from Hong Kong the other closer to me, the HK listing is charging 5.56, while the other is asking for 17 with postage but if i bid I can get them for 12.50 assuming I am the only one to bid. Descriptions seem to be the same only the price differs. I know if I but the cheaper ones I can get about 3 pairs for the price of the other listing but they are all the same size and it just says one size fits most. Where as the more pricey one is for one pair and says one size fits most but adds it can fit small to large aka size 6 to 12.

Gah wish I knew my size no fair.

That is my concern that no matter which I go for they will be too big or too small compared to what they listed for size.

Well height and weight or hip and waist measurements. What is your inseam? The easiest way is to go to the store and try them on but obviously that is easier said then done. You may just have to buy a bunch like Zoe said. I couldn't say without knowing your inseam and weight. You have to remember women's clothes are meant for people much smaller. Are you petite? That would be 5'4 or under. I'm more like a size 6 or 8 depending on the brand. Also Junior's clothing tends to be made for girls without much hip or butt size.

I am going to suggest you go to a shop and try some on.

I know that may be daunting, but the purpose of shops is to sell you things. Start out with a department store. It'll get easier the more you do it.

Also, if you have no idea what size you may need, you should be able to google clothing sizes to give you an idea.

I'm not sure what you're on about re seeing your legs through leggings though - in the uk 'leggings' are skin tight lycra things...

They always work out in a formula where you take into account BOTH your height AND weight

and the problem is with every womans clothing it differs from brand to brand and type to type, you have to check with every catalogue you go to

so whichever you are buying there should be a chart in the the website or catalogue for the leggings or hose and you crosscheck your height and weight along and there will be a grid and you should be able to find the size that it will tell you it should be for that particular brand

and if you are buying a quality brand they will take returns  also the better you buy the longer they last

and if your tear a small hole use clear nail polish to seal it immediately, this will  make them last longer

Well I think it is cause at times the definition of leggings varies as tights can come off see through(not greatly) as pantyhose but not listed as such. I am a bit away from shopping in person as I am unable to present most of the time(confidence is an issue) But then i have never liked trying things on in shops.

I honestly do not know my measurements asked my mum to help me with that a few weeks ago but she has been crook and also she babysits my niece and nephew during the week. So she hasn't had the time. Also while I have some weight to me(not petite or skinny) most of the weight is in my stomach, I guess I have thick legs but not overly so. If I can find a pic of them I will update with that.

Why am I feeling pathetic right now? I might just buy one or the other and hope it fits. if not I can either hold to them until I shrink(lose weight) or use them as material fodder for my sewing in connection to my hobbies.

Silver lining right? lol

Don't let being in 'male mode' stop you. Just try things on in the male changing rooms.

My opinion is that, if you don't 'pass' in female mode and you can summon the self confidence then it's actually easier to try things on in male mode. If you're upfront and confident with shop staff and put them at ease they are generally ok in my experience... In fact, sometimes they're super helpful... At least in the uk.

It isn't just male mode, I have just never felt comfortable in dressing rooms, always feel like someone is watching me on some camera. Heck I never even liked changing in the locker rooms in high school, I would wear my sports uniform under my normal school uniform and just take the shirt off for sport revealing my sports uniform top and then chuck the regular uniform shirt back on over it after..(was a b*tch in summer) I have always been self conscious I guess.

you can go into any store and get a tape measure and not even buy the clothes and the order the tights online after that having measured yourself at home if you are embarrassed to try them on in the store and a scale is not that expensive, all of these problems are not insurmountable

My last weight measurement was 108kgs, however I came up as 105kgs at my last endo appointment like a week and a half ago after weighing myself that morning as 108kgs aswell so my scales aren't entirely accurate(never trust them lol). Just tried doing my measurements myself but not sure if i read it right.

The leggings I am looking at, at the most can stretch to fit a 90cm waist which if I measured correctly I am 74cm at the waist(damn belly fat), however at the hipline they only stretch to 100cm and again if I measured correctly I kept getting different numbers but the average would be 123cm(doesn't seem right)

so waist wise they would fit but hip wise by all accounts they would not. Other pairs I have found give sizes like 12 and 14 but it is all over the place on different sites some say a size 12 would fit me while others say they would be too small.

I am from the USA AND I am OLD  (50) ha ha, they did not teach us that well back then only  few classes in about the 2nd grade and then we had to use the units in science class so I am having to convert

What I get is you really should use size 14 to be more comfortable in the waist but they may bag a little on your legs, this is always a problem when you  have belly fat ( I know this because I use to have this problem, I use to weigh 250 lbs, 113.5 kg, now 130 lb 59Kg I am 5' 4"  1.5m)

My weight is a double edged sword for me on a few account one being that through most of primary school and into high school I only weighed around 36kgs(wasn't anorexic just didn't put weight on) Then my epilepsy came and i went on meds for it around 15, when I came off it at 18 my weight was upto 86kgs and stayed there for a few years the highest I got was about 3 years ago when I weighed 123kgs so from 18 to 22 I was under triple digits and then from 23 to 24 I was as I said 123kgs then over the last year or two I dropped 15 kgs.

Lowest I have been since all that was 105kg I seem to be staying around 108kg. So on the one hand I am glad I put weight on after so many years of not putting it on and supposedly will help HRT but at the same time I want the weight count down again so I can buy the sort of clothes I like but also to help with surgery once I can afford it and brave it.

But yeah I have never measured myself before so this was my first attempt and have no idea if I even did it correctly.

1)  I am fortunate topirimate covers me both for my migraines AND the epilepsy and it does not have a weight component 300 mg/day

2) don't worry the measuring get easier with practice as you do it more often, try getting bras right, everyone does it differently

Well I found another pair that for sizes close to can come in a M that says  size 12 - 14 or L that says 14 - 16. So should i get the M that is topped at 14 and maybe a little small or the L that starts at 14 and could fit a bit loosely?

I am not on epilepsy medication anymore and I see my neurologist once a year. I hope it gets easier

Remember regardless of size leggings will be snug, I love them that way. If you do not want the leg to show through then go with a larger size, the larger the size then the fibers won't stretch apart as much as if you got a smaller one so whatever color the leggings are will look more solid and less opaque.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered a pair the other day, it said size Large which covers 14-16. Hopefully they fit snug and non opaque. Quite affordable so if too small/opaque I will just go up a size.

There are some "Free" size leggings. Although I am relatively tall (183 cm or 6 feet), I wear "S" size leggings for the purpose of tucking.

Well I hope now I have an idea what size leggings fit me it will not be long before I work out tops and jeans aswell.

That is the first I have some across the term free size leggings. I will look into that thanks barbie.
