Hello everyone,

I have been on HRT for just over a month now and everything has been going well until recently when I got the go ahead from my doctor to double my E dosage (I was on a low dose for the first month). Anyway, I just seem to feel really moody/angry and just wondered if maybe it was due to doubling the dose. I have also started taking my HRT in the morning instead of late afternoon, so maybe that could have something to do with it as well, but I'm not sure?? As I am taking two E tablets now, I was thinking of maybe taking one at night and one in the morning to see if that may help, but yeah just a bit confussed. Is there such a thing as a good time of day to take the pills??

Thanks in advance, and I hope this all makes sense.

I got a massive acne breakout after my spironolactone was doubled.

I personally take my pills with food at lunch time. As long as the dosing time is roughly consistent you should get an even dose of estrogen: or you could take half dose in the morning and half in the evening.

I've heard injections give bigger mood swings than pills. So it's probably just due to your dose being doubled, and the fact that you changed when you are taking your pills.

Hey Anna you should probably discuss with your doctor the proper dosage. But really as I'm learning moods swings are a normal part hrt well at least with me. They are just one of the many emotional changes that have to be delt with on regular basis.

Spreading out the doses into one in the morning and one in the evening might indeed be a good idea. The REALLY important thing, though, is to try taking them at roughly the same time every day. The more consistent your hormone levels are, the less you'll get those nasty mood swings. I know personally that when I accidentally miss a dose, I feel like CRAP about 6 hours later.

Part of it is honestly just estrogen, though. It does that. When I was talking with my therapist about how some days I feel awesome and other days I just feel like crap, she seriously said "welcome to the world of estrogen."

Missing a dose by an hour or two does not affect anything. The reason most doctors want you to take it in the morning and at night at a specific time is to create a habit so you don't forget to take your dose. If you miss a dose by six hours that is a different story. T levels are higher in the morning though so it is good to take part of your dose at night and not the whole thing in the morning. Also, take spiro with food as it increases bioavilability by 100 percent.

Thank you everyone :)
I ended up taking my HRT before I went to bed last night and I have been feeling great all day.

Like some of you said, maybe it was purely just the estrogen that was responsible for my bad mood over the last couple of days, although I think I will continue taking my HRT before I go to bed from now on just in case!!

Anyway, thanks again and as mentioned I am very pleased to say that I am feeling much better :)

At 3 years and 11 months on E myself I can tell you that Kuan Yin hit it just perfectly.  You have entered and been seated in one of the worlds scariest and freakiest of roller coasters.  I am not on a cyclic oral E, but at what would be my PMS and my Period start days in a 28 day cycle, I can guarantee that I will be a total momma bow-wow for about 36 hours on PMS and 48+ hours on the other one.  I also cry very easily when mad or sad.  In two weeks go to a chick flick, and take a truck load of Kleenex.
