Moving from the Liberal state of Maine to the not so liberal state of Texas

So I spent several years in the Military and after that I spent a couple years in Texas and had a daughter before moving back to Maine (Started to realize I was a gay cross dresser around the time I had my daughter). Anyways almost two years later I want to go back to Texas and be with my daughter but I am quite scared. Maine is a very Liberal state and I get stared at all the time so I cant imagine what it will be like in Texas were racism and other hate is still so great. Does any other ladies dress 24/7 in southern states?

Actual hate is rare wherever you go. Racism doubly so. (Seriously - the day people stop calling conservatives racist cannot come soon enough for my liking)
We have a couple members from Texas who could probably tell you more reliably, but I wouldn't expect anything more severe than strange looks, TBH.

Unless, of course, you run around calling people racists and hateful to their face. Which nobody should do, for obvious reasons.

Texas is actually a rather diverse state.  I lived in the Dallas area for a few years and loved it.

I would say the big cities like Dallas, Austin and Houston would be your best bet, especially Houston and Dallas. Along I-35 in places it's fairly liberal the closer you are to Dallas, Austin and San Antonio.

"not so liberal" is good choice of words for, being neither "liberal Democratic" nor "Republican neo-con", it is a very CATHOLIC state that is OPPOSED to all forms of central tyranny over personal LIBERTY & FREEDOMS !

They HAVE ROOM for everybody ! !

In the last seven months I've spent a lot of time All thru Texas and they put their pants on one leg at a time just like most normal people do.

Oh BTW ladies don't wear dresses anymore, very rare indeed!

I'm here.  A socially conservative back drop with significant liberal enclaves.  You can make it here and even thrive, but I'm looking to move eventually, mostly to get away from my life and even moreso the heat. PNW for me...

The conservative level of texas varies greatly depending on what area you are in. Like some people have said already the bigger cities tend to be more liberal Austin probably the most liberal of all, but Dallas is close.

That being said Texas is kinda backward in their laws like getting your gender marker changed in Texas is a crapshoot that involves a judge. Unless you hire a lawyer its an iffy proposition.

Dallas itself has an anti-discrimination law that applies to Trans folks so that helps.

Austin is liberal but not big (1.5 million or so). I think Houston has a better trans network honestly.  I hate Dallas.

It all depends on where you are going,  but remember Texas is a very large and diverse place. There are mean people everywhere, but so are nice people who are accepting.

Given you are ex-military I would guess you are possibly going to San Antonio or Kileen? Can't speak for Kileen (only drive through there), but I have always felt safe and happy in San Antonio.

I'm in the San Antonio area, and I'm inclined to echo the sentiment that acceptance will vary depending on where you are and who you deal with.  If you visit a Unitarian Universalist church (at least in SA), you shouldn't have a problem.  With catholics (on a group/individual basis, outside the church), well, your mileage varies, as they cover about the entire ideological spectrum.  The four big metro areas are probably your best hope (Dallas/FW, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin, each with their own idiosyncrasies).

Im in the austin area and there is a great trans scene here. People will stare anywhere you go. Texas isn't as close minded as people on the outside think.
What area are you moving to?
