One big effect of HRT is to turn back the ageing clock - so eat your heart out Dorian Gray !

A collage I put together a while back to show the effects of the 27 years since my 21st birthday.

My best university pal, Iranian "Kazem" has I guess undergone typical male ageing and looks every bit of his 51 years.  Myself, well  :) ??? !!!

Kazem's young wife, Ellie, on seeing the old pic pointed at me saying "she hasn't changed at all" and poked Kaz in his generous belly and said "but just look at you !".  It was our first meeting after more than 20 years of lost contact .... and of course our first with me as Laura ....

I have noticed that the most. When I look at pictures of my former self and now I look like I have gotten younger :)

Looking good,
I know how it to reunite with someone from your past. I myself have just reunited with a Navy buddy after about 18 years; however, my friend doesn't know me an Ericka, yet.

Well, if HRT does "turn back time" in a sense then I will be fine. I have always looked young for my age.

You were never that male looking to begin with when you were younger!

I am personally hoping for the best with regards to HRT for myself!  Just starting out I am hoping for so much, but expecting very little.

(Just to note the profile pic is me before HRT, and I am wearing a wig.)

Amy, from your Avatar, you have a small mouth, small round not too tall chin, your jaw is less wide than mine now because I've got a bit of muscle on it (must come from chewing gum when I was young :-).  The nose, from the front is AOK, the bossing, a clearly visible but seemingly not heavy (only a profile view and a view in direct light overhead can really allow a decent judgement on that) and the bossing doesn't seem to close your eyes off too much (mine made my eyes much smaller ), your skin seems smooth and your face seems full.

In your case, from the frontal view, only the bossing could be a problem; but then again not (only after awhile on HRT can that be really judged). Mine was actually similar to yours, but closer to the eyes. Meaning my orbit was not as large over my eyes as yours (thus the bossing closed the eyes up, leaving them in perpetual shadow, my upper eyelid had never seen the sun :-).

My complexion was rough and terrible before I started. Just a change in complexion, which everybody has, even those that have little other facial changes makes a big difference in passing. In my case, since I had already like people said a "lesbian butch face ;-)", that improvement alone allowed me to pass rapidly even before my face rounded up.

Since you need so little HRT help to change people's perception, you should do fine. I am sending good vibes your way.

Thanks so much Keira.
The nose is a hate/okay with it relationship by the way.  It actually looks better from the side then the front.  I don't think its because it is too masculine...just to big and weird looking at times.  But from what I hear there is very few people who like their nose completely anyway.

The bossing I am well aware of, but not too big a deal to me for some weird reason.  I don't know, it may be the whole hiding behind glasses thing.  Glasses are a big part of my self image.  So I see the glasses before the bossing.

Hair removal has done WONDERS to my complexion.  I hated my facial hair, laser has literally been a miraculous in so many ways.  As far as skin tone, I am not sure if it can get anymore fair.  The lighting in the room was bad.  It made the photo looked aged.  I had comments already on how much it changed my face.

I am hoping HRT does more for what is under the wig though. I was looking at your old photos and my hairline and density is very similar to where you started (maybe a little worse, (actually your old photos gave me alot of hope).  I am still pretty young and while there is significant loss, most of it was in the last three years.  My endo said not to worry, and that it is very likely most of it will grow back considering my age...but it is part of my overall skepticism that things won't change (even though I know quite a bit will change for the better).

For everywhere but the front end of the temples, you should have full regrowth for sure if the loss is recent (Maybe you should take dutasteride a more efficiient DHT inhibitor than finesteride (its about $30 for a months supply at medsranch.com)). Many men swear by it in the hairloss forums and they're hair has to content with a lot more testosterone than ours.

Also, hair density in general will increase on the whole scalp.  Even with spiro and E, if you are very susceptible to DHT, a major hair loss starting at 25 seems to be the case, you should take at DHT inhibitor.

The front end of the temple is by far the most susceptible to DHT and many men who don't lose hair have lost hair in the front temple in their early 20's. You may or may not get that one back.

I won't get it back, that's for sure since I started losing hair there at 18, 21 years ago!! But, its a relatively small area which is often of lesser density than other areas even in women, so its not that expensive to get it filled with hair implants, the doctor said I needed 500 implants (they have an everage about 2 hair, to fill in the area). In my case, it will cost me about 2200$ to get a female hairline.

Until then, if you hair is not fine, just wear bangs over the holes and do a side part through the dense middle on the side where the holes is the smallest. Fine hair straight hair is more difficult since it doesn't cover that much and thus leaves the temples holes often exposed or thinly covered.

My hair has defiantly gotten thicker and the spot on the back of head as filled in completely but like you said the hair loss in front is still an issue, I have such a big forehead :(  but I hide it with bangs :)

My endo said there is not much of a point to taking a DHT inhibitor since spiro and E both already do that more effectively than any one on the market.  Especially when you near the dosages of spiro and E that we generally take (both do block DHT by the way, Spiro is the hair loss treatment for women because it does block DHT as well even when there is high sensitivity, and it is considered a last resort for men).  He was a bit perplexed how DHT inhibitors made it into hormone regiments since they are entirely unnecessary, even when there is a sensitivity. He was pretty clear it just may just mean taking a higher dosage of spiro, which I am fine with. (He was pretty detailed about the science of it all.  I asked about whether it would be a good idea to put it in the regiment, he was pretty open about it not being necessary and the reasons why it unneccesarily increase cost.)  By the way this doctor does quite a bit of HRT for transgender patients, it is the Whitman-Walker Clinic in DC which is the local GLBT clinic has transgender care.

Most of the hair loss was recent.  I started slowly thinning hair between 21-25 (but it was very slow), but the rapid hair loss was between 25-28 (so the last 3 years).  It was more of a rapid thinning than a rapid loss.  It used to be very thick, and very long.
I will probably need some grafts.  But the fewer I need the better off I will be.
I am probably going to bangs anyway if things do improve, I am way to self conscious about my forehead.

I know it is odd that I have one huge concern with transition regarding passing, but it is pretty key concern. Most are worried about a myriad of issues.  I really just need tweaks to my face, nothing major.  My body will change without question, and I am patient about when to expect change.  I guess it is just my own little obsession. I miss having long thick beautiful dark hair.

OK, since its revived, its revived, the zombie lives!

Anyway, this is well matched before and after photos, there is a slight difference in angle and the size of the heads are very slightly different. Also, the smiling is bigger on the right, which changes the face a bit.

- Photo on the left, 2 years ago, not too bad male photo I suppose, at least my complexion was better than the year after where I had really left myself go... The other before pictures.  I don't think I looked like a "butch lesbian" from that angle (as some have said in previous photos  :D ). Many said I looked good as a male, hey, I didn't care... Ever, as my 39 years of celibacy can attest.

- The front of my hairline hasn't changed at all, most regrowth is in the back temple and on the sides with a higher density in all areas that had hair. My lips are noticeably fuller, especially the bottom lip (that people have commented on). The FFS op has really opened my eyes, that's the biggest change from the front. The nose from the front hasn't changed that much at first glance (the change is mostly in profile) but it is much more refined. The cheeks are also much fuller, before even with a big smile I couldn't get my cheeks to look round like that. Obviously changed my eyebrows (not linked to hormones obviously).

The back end of my jaw looks stronger on the second pick because I'm smiling more and my masseter bulges out when that happens GRRRR, soon to solve that one  ;D
