Hello everyone, I'm a heroin addict. I've been trying to quit for a while, but withdrawal ravages my body from the inside out worse than any pain or sickness I've ever felt or even imagined possible. I don't even get high anymore, I just do enough to not get sick. I've been in a methadone program that isn't working so I'm going to go to a medical detox facility in about a week, depending when I find a place. I've been looking for a place but I'm scared because I'm reading horror story reviews plus I'm afraid I won't be respected as a guy since there's not trans specific info on any of their sites. I'm hoping someone here has safely and comfortably detoxed from heroin or other opiates before and has a place in California they can recommend me. Please help!! I need to be free of this demon drug!

California is one darn big place and you do not narrow it down much.  My suggestion is to find the nearest GLBT community center and ask them.  Next in line is going to be your NA service center office, or maybe just go to a GLBT NA meeting and ask the members.  Any of the County mental health offices can also start you on the road to resources in whichever county of 58 you live in.

The Kaiser health system has some very good places statewide (I was in one for alcohol, but with folks that did everything) and they are now Trans* informed and welcoming. If you have them for insurance give your Behavioral Health office a phone call and they will get right on it.

I'm in Orange County and would drive a couple hours for the right place. I just need a place that wont screw me over and make me suffer. I need a two week all clean detox that's legit. I have good Cigna insurance.

Go to the Cigna web page where it cross references available doctors by specialty.

I was admitted to my detox by a psychiatrist.  I did not see an Addiction Medicine specialist on the Cigna web site. but the detox experience you need and want is going to come via a medical referral. You will do the absolute best where all of your doctors share your full medical history. There are Cigna therapists who deal in addiction issues in Long Beach CA and in Santa Monica CA when I use an Anaheim zip code.
