You may be self-conscious when shopping, but I would doubt anyone will inquire into it too much.

I've bought lots and lots of clothes for ex-wives and girlfriends over the years and never once had anyone question anything.

Personally, I enjoy shopping for the women in my life. Shoes, dresses, lingerie, underwear, jewelry.. doesn't matter. I don't care for spending endless hours with them pouring over the clothes racks, but I don't mind going on my own - usually in and out in a half an hour.

Anyway, given that I woudn't see any salesperson being that nosy. They sure don't want to drive off a cash customer.

I gues what it comes down to is it's none of their business who you buy the stuff for.  I have yet to be asked and if that time ever comes I think I would just say it's for myself and let them deal with that...
