Hey guys, it's been hard enough going to the store in my binder when the sun is out because I sweat like, well, you guys know. So I'm looking to start hiking and camping and stuff, I've already got all my gear, but I'm concerned about binding while on the trail; wearing something hot and itchy and sweaty while I'm doing something that already makes me hot, itchy, and sweaty. What so you guys suggest? Weaker binder? A specific kind of sports bra? Please let me know anything that you do! Thank you!!

When I go hiking and camping I wear a sports bra. I have a cheap one, but I want to get a high quality one that wicks sweat away from the body. As long as the nipple is covered you can go shirtless. I plan on not wearing a shirt once I get a sports bra that isn't too small (read squeezing my fat and making me look disgusting). Once and only once, a few years ago, I got up the nerve to wear a bikini top while hiking. The freedom I felt because I was able to stay cool a lot easier was amazing. I've resented having to cover my body ever since.

I spend a lot of time doing outdoorsy stuff (I work as a day camp counselor and then turn around and go hiking/camping/beach-exploring on the weekends), and this is definitely something I puzzle over regularly. My current solution is to wear a sports bra, a t-shirt, and a lightweight vest over top. I have a pretty big chest, so the vest helps conceal what the sports bra fails to squash. It's a lot of layers, so it's a little warmer than I would like, but it's nowhere near as hot and immobilizing as a proper binder would be under similar circumstances.

When I'm out alone or with close friends who know I'm trans, I sometimes just abandon all pretenses of being manly looking/fully clothed and remove the t-shirt so I'm only wearing the sports bra and vest. There comes a point where overheating trumps gender dysphoria on my personal discomfort scale.
