How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks: A Dermatologist's Advice

Stretch marks are practically an inevitability for women. Considering losing weight, gaining weight, adolescence and pregnancy are pretty much the name of the game for us, it's just about certain that at some point in our lives, we'll deal with stretch marks. Besides being frustrated about the non-glamorous side effect, putting up with stretch marks can be a bit easier when you know why they're there.

To help understand stretch marks from the root of the problem, we spoke to cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Oscar Hevia. Below, Dr. Hevia explains what causes stretch marks, how to prevent them from happening, and how to treat them once they're present.

My BF was just commenting about my stretch marks the other day. I guess he saw them when I was sleeping. They are all over my inner thighs and butt. They look like tiger stripes. The really bad ones are still kinda purplish 12 years after I first noticed them when i was 18. I have them on the front of my thighs too and on my hips.

I noticed them at about the same time guys started commenting on how cute my little butt was and some would even squeeze it. My two friends used to say all kinda of crude things about my little "woman's butt" and how they'd like to...me.

I have no idea how they happened. it was par for the course though. I already had a full A/small B cup breasts, tiny little hands ( or as my brother calls them: delicate little things that never saw hard work lol), extremely narrow shoulders for a MAAB, and my height and build. Not to mention my face.

Do all cis males get some form of stretch marks because any guy I ever asked looked at me like i'm crazy and said only women get them. This is part of the reason I used to think I'm intersexed. Hell, most people think I'm a hermaphrodite. I used to identify as intersex at age 10 - 12. I read it in a book. But then I found out about transsexuals and instantly identified.

Tangent over. But seriously these markes ain't going away. They are deep and wide and there are a lot of them. Who else has them? They don't bother me but now my BF thinks I should get a karotype test and thinks I'm like 50 percent woman. That would be great because then I'd have physical evidence and no one could make fun of me lol

Yeah, I've definitely seen stretch marks on cis guys before. It's not a FAAB thing.

So to summarise, they're not going anywhere, clinical trials show that nothing really helps except maybe topical silicon gel, get used to it.
Damn. At least I now know to focus on other things that I know I can improve.
Thanks Jamie :)
