I guess I have to try an epilator.  I have tried creams and waxing, both with bad results.  And I absolutely hate having to shave.  The razor and I spend a lot of time together.  But don't have another choice right now.

The epilator is my best friend but I do use a razor for touch ups and when I'm in a hurry.
Because of the epilator my hair seem to be finer and thinner than it was when I started over a year ago.

I tried...I really tried...to leave some hair on my calves and on my arms below the elbow for the summer, but I just couldn't stand it.  I made it almost 2 months, but just couldn't take it any more.  Everything below the neck just has to go!

A hint for all you epilator ladies...if you get in a hurry and just shave (especially after the above), you end up having to start all over with the epilator.  This takes a lot more time and hurts almost as bad as the first time...OUCH!!  :'( :'(

Still, epilating every 7-10 days beats the heck out of shaving every day.

Question for y'all...my chest and stomach hair is very thick.  I have tried the epilator (took a while to work my way through the pain to get it all done...multiple attempts over several days).  I ended up with lots of red bumps and ingrown hairs, so I tried shaving (every dang day!), but still get the bumps.  What do y'all do to help eliminate those ugly bumps and ingrown hair?

Ya put your right foot in.  You put your right foot out.  You put your right foot in and you shake it all about.  You do the Andro-gyney and you turn yourself around.  That's what it's all about.

I like loofahs, or whatever those scrubby things are called. Witch Hazel can help soothe skin too.

Another question to the Epilator ladies:

The instructions say not to use the on facial areas.  Is this a real concern, or have you tried it?

As I understand it, epilating the face would be the same a plucking - a no-no on facial hair, per my electrolygist.

Bumps are created by dead skin on the surface delaying the new hair from coming out, the gets balled up under the pressure high enough and it emerges. Unlike hair you shave, plucked hair from the epilator has a softer end and can have more diifficulty emerging from under the skin. So, you have exfolliate to get rid of the bumps.

I thiink loofahs are WAY to rough, and unsanitary, I use a slightly rough glove specifically made to exfolliate.

I've had hairy arms and the like since I was a kid. Recently, I empowered myself and said no more. ;D Electrolosis is my ongoing plan. I'm waiting for the day scientists create a pill that attacks the genes that produce body hair.

So, Keira, this must account for the tiny popping noises I hear some nights in bed :D

Oh wow Melissa that's great.
Thanks.  It looks like I'm in the minority though, since I'm the only one who voted they were happy with the hair they have.  I wore a bikini this last weekend and had to shave my bikini line.  That went all fine and everything, but the next few days were ouch, ouch, ouch and itch, itch, itch as it grew back in.

I twease my chest (or epilate when I get lazy), shave my legs and arm pits when I remember (every few weeks), but don't touch the vellus hairs on my arms.  I shave my face each day to remove the hairs I can feel but not see.  I am religious about tweasing my eyebrows.

I use sugar. Never shave.

I didn't have much of it before T, don't think I have that much now but comparatively it's like watching myself turn into a werewolf. My body hair's pale though in a lot of places so it's not all that obvious.

I epilate all of it since I started HRT. Makes me feel more feminine and it grows less and slower.

When we were young, my wife kept me smooth always. Now it is getting to be a war with hair and the hair is winning. She only shaves me for special occasions, and during the sunny months.

I spend enough time with the epilator and shaver. Luckily, I never had chest hair to deal with.

I bought a real epilator on eBay last week - an electrolysis machine.   8)  Just woke up and the tracking info suggests it's on my front porch.  A few hours ago I had a dream about buying accessories for it!  Why was that rusty watch with all the screws and metal filings falling out of it on the counter...

My new toy is a Fischer, same as my operator uses but an older model, they're a serious company.  I can't stand body hair, I don't care how many hours it'll take to get rid of it all.  Buying my own is costing me about the price of 7 hours of professional work.  A transwoman from Canada who posts on a board for electro and who does this work professionally says she's just absolutely buried with inquiries from people who are transitioning these days.

Tweezing/waxing distorts follicles, often making electro difficult later.  This is my usual caveat.  That should be in my signature.
