Today is National Tequila Day in the United States.
Here is one of my favorite tequila cocktails - especially good on a warm California summer afternoon.
Tequila SunriseThis is properly a "layered drink" as served.
In a tall Collins or Highball glass, or a tall champagne flute, half-fill with ice cubes.
Carefully pour 1/2 jigger of Grenadine syrup (or homemade pomegranate syrup) into the bottom of the glass.
Using a large tablespoon as a catch, slowly pour in 2 jiggers of orange juice, taking care not to mix the orange juice and the Grenadine.
Using again the tablespoon, slowly pour 1 jigger of a good quality aged silver tequila over the orange juice, taking care not to mix the liquids.
Carefully add any additional ice cubes. Garnish as desired with your choice of orange twist, skewered cherry, or blood orange slice.
