congrats!

I haven't had surgery yet, but I always see people recommend bendy straws and button down shirts

After surgery, you will not want to be reaching for things.  One thing I did was to have canned food in house and put everything I thought I would need on the kitchen table.  Also, build up those ab muscles.  Getting out of bed etc., you will not want to be using your arms.  That's what I remember.

Awesome! I'm in the process of getting things together for my surgery and I'm putting together a with a list of things. You probably already know about most of these but here goes:

Ginger ale, milk of magnesia/prune juice, benabryl/zyrtec, baby wipes, compression stockings, button down shirts, vitamedica healing support program, a few seasons of your favorite show (or the whole series/ netflix), bendy straws, slip on shoes, gatorade, open-side shirts, soft foods. Best of luck!

Here's what I have on my Ipod of stuff to buy/tips:

Before surgery
-Arnica & Bromelain
-Vitamin C

Dr. G recommends taking the first two, helps with swelling and recovering.
Upping your vitamin C levels is supposed to help recovery as well. I plan to take all 3 prior and after surgery.

Scar treatment
-Mederma
-Silicone sheets(Scarfx)
-Sunset lotion, 110spf.

Don't want your scars to get red, Alionsfear on youtube put sun lotion everyday for almost a year and his scars are white.
He applied the lotion after the mederma was absorbed completely.

After Surgery
-Gauze or Big ban aids for your nipples.
-Neosporin to put on yellow gauze Dr.G gives you for your nipples.

Extras
-Straws
-Compression socks
-Stool softener
-3 or 4 short sleeve button ups
-Baby wipes
-Ensure

Mine is booked for October 22th :)

I found it beneficial to wear tank tops under my button down shirts, the tightness pressed the drains down so it didn't look like I had weird lumps exploding out of my body under my shirt

you will need help putting the tank on, just do "t rex arms" when you put it on

also I wouldn't use band aids for your nipple care.  I had to wear them for two weeks and I still have a red rash from the sticky part of the bandaids, use gauze and gentle medical tape

oh and bathing your lower half is so easy, don't lay in it like normal, just crouch in the tub on your knees, then you can get clean and not get stuck in the tub

oh and don't use laxatives, use milk of magnesia, it only gave me diarrhea one time and then it started helping me be more regular

I got this list from JackGr8ndEmpire on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTmBiECgHJ-1X0YUa1q14aA
He's got a series of great videos on Dr. G which are very helpful about top surgery and Dr. G in particular but anybody really.
He did a list which I am copying as I am sure he would want it out there but you could thank him. Some of these are brilliant and I would never think of them.
Suggested Shopping List:

Button-Down Shirts
Bathrobe
Straws / Straw Cup
Neck Pillow
Small Throw Pillow (put between you and a seat belt)
Scar Guard/Mederma
Large Bandaids (Sensitive Skin)
Non-Stick Gauze
Paper Gauze Tape
Scissors
Rubbing Alcohol
Neosporin/Triple Antibiotic Ointment
Hand Sanitizer
Laxative
Stool Softener
Benadryl
Bromelain
Arnica
Compression Socks
Back Scratcher
Baby Wipes
Soft Foods
Throat Lozenges  (you are intebated (sp?) during surgery)
chapstick (same)
Laundry Soap Packets
Lotion
THE CLAW (for picking up stuff)
Flip-Flops and / or slippers (You can't bend over to tie your shoes)
I might have added a few things I read elsewhere.

Congratulations!
I'm jealous.
I haven't been able to do so yet, and it looks like everybody else has got most of it covered, but I've heard that your chest will be really really itchy while you recover so prepare for that! I also heard that lemon juice will make the scars less visible but you have to wait until its healed a bit to use that.
Good luck!

I wasn't even that achy right after surgery, and the week after that.  I wasn't in much pain at all and neither were the two other guys I met up with who had their surgeries around the same time.

Only thing keeping you from being active at Uni would be risk of stretching/swelling, in my opinion, based on my experience.  I took it easy after surgery because I was told to, but I didn't FEEL tired or achy.

I mean, sure it did hurt a little, but considering the surgery... I thought I would be in more pain then I was.
