I'm growing increasingly frustrated with not having SRS and I am reconsidering Dr. Reed in Miami. Has anyone had SRS with him and what did it cost you?

Flan

I got surgery through him in July.

He's a good surgeon in spite of old negative reviews but the low cost of surgery he offers is offset by the cost of aftercare especially if you stay at Daddy-O (and there's only 2 hotel choices, Daddy-O and Baltic which is a little more ghetto but closer to a publix so food is cheaper). Surgery is 14.5k, hotel was 100 a night average (it's gone up at daddy-o), car rental was 500 for 21 days total.

You MUST have another person with you for a week or so post op just in case. Reed will give office line and his mobile phone number in case of an emergency at night. He also gets crap for the outpatient nature of surgery but I've seen worse with a surgeon who shall not be named. Yes, you stay at his office overnight for observation with Dr Reed sleeping in office in case needed. Transportation back to hotel is provided by Reed himself and yes, everyone bleeds a little in his car, he's used to it. :P

My only complication from the surgery itself resulted from a blood disorder we assumed I didn't have so make sure insurance covers Mount Sinai hospital in case of bleeding (which again, can happen with any surgeon). Reed does quick checks daily at 7:30 to 8:30 am and if you stay for more than the usual 10ish days post he doesn't mind if you just go to his office. The only real annoyance relates to the post op instruction of keeping the urinary catheter for 12 days post and the outer stitches at 14 days post.

He's pretty picky with preop labs so don't be surprised if he suggests testosterone to force hematocrit to increase (red blood cell count by volume). Again, aftercare in Miami is expensive so insurance that covers meds is a must as is budgeting for food, car rental, entertainment, etc.

Three of my friends have been to Dr. Reed, and back up Flan completely as far as conditions and costs go, but they are quite happy with the results.  Reed does consult other SRS surgeons if he has questions or something really weird happen to his patients, and he does not waste time doing it.
I refuse to have a war of wits with a half armed opponent!!

Wiser now about Post Op reality!!

Flan, congrats on your recent rebirth! What type of post op results are you expecting with Dr. Reed? I'm talking along the lines of ascetics, depth and sensation. Does his "book" of prior surgeries look like the genetic ones?

I wish you the best possible recovery and results!

I was hoping for more defined labia minora but my gyno thinks the results are good (apart from the issues of granulation tissue I'm having). I'll probably go for a revision because I'm picky and impatient (since there's still a certain amount of swelling). I know another person who had surgery recently (late July) with McGinn and she's happy although has the opposite aesthetics as me: big minora and small majora. Depth was mostly limited to what material I had for scrotal graft. Although let's just say the getup works a little too well.

As far as his average results I would say they are good but there's a lot of little limitations common to other surgeons. My clitoral hooding doesn't really cover/protect from things (but it looks good) and the way the labia are made is a compromise aimed at making sure they have a good blood supply/no necrosis. This means the minora are pretty thick compared to the average assigned at birth female. I also have 2 large scars on the majora same as the person who went to McGinn; hoping they heal nicely although the material difference is noticeable (between scrotal/peri skin and penile skin).

Flan, thank you for the reply. That article was an interesting read, not for the faint of heart! Dr. Reed did answer a lot of questions though. Such as depth targets, clitoral hooding and labia. Considering his office is a little over an hour away from me keeps him on my "list". I'm surprised that he has "only" done some 250 surgeries.
