Ello' everyone!

Regarding hair, I'd like to know if anyone has had hair extensions before, as I'm considering getting them, but I am not sure that my hair is in good enough condition to work with them. My hairline is the classic "M" shaped male pattern, with horrible receeding. DHT has recently also thinned all the hair all over my head, with the thicker hairs all falling out. Trichologists shave said that my hair is still in good condition on the whole in terms of the amount of it. However my hair is now quite brittle, the ends split and there are splits along the hairshaft, along with a beaded effect along the hairshaft, where it appears thicker and thinner, thicker and thinner in intervals. My hair appears to be in the last phase of being fairly healthy. I'm taking steps (finasteride and monixdil) to ensure I keep my hair on life support and as stable as long as possible.
I need a fringe of some sort as a have brow bossing. Clip-on hair looks too obvious and my hair is (thankfully) too thick and long to wear a wig, but I hate wigs anyway.
I also want to find a way or a technique to add volume to the back of my head, for when I pin my hair up.

- My hair how it looks now.

- My Hair now, but I need more volume for the back, as I have to use all my hair to cover up the receeding hairline.

- Profile view (apologies about the light) despite the obvious masculine neck etc, I still want to achieve a pretty hairstyle.
Will dying my hair help to strengthen it?
Might applying hair extensions (in a salon) to my fringe and back of my head work?
How may I add volume to my overall hair if I wanted to pile it up on my head in an up-do if extensions wouldn't work?
What shampoos and products might be good for my hair?
Any suggestion greatly recieved. Thank you!
