I am always seeing newly registered users. I have noticed a handful don't seem to make their first post, and they probably disappear, never to be seen from again. I know people have their lives, but maybe, just maybe, it's possible to encourage a few with a private message, that's less robotic, and more welcoming. I cannot recall getting an automatic private message when i joined, maybe times have changed now though. A few forums i am on have no automatic private message, while the ones that do, don't always encourage the person to become involved.

Thankfully, i still have a welcome message from another forum a visit.

Welcome to , a community devoted to taking this life and improving it.

Before posting, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Guidelines which are in place to ensure that the community remains welcoming and helpful.

Afterward, feel free to stop by the Meet the Community forum and introduce yourself.

You'll find plenty of areas to post in and receive support for challenges you are facing, and even areas to joke around in with friends you make here. You may be arriving alone, but you won't stay that way for long.

All the best,

Perhaps even refer people to a few threads. 'A few popular threads here; The Offical 'You Look Badass, Dude' Topic (Ver 2.0), The official "You look fabulous, darling!" (Ver 3.0), Music you are listening to now'.

The registrations are from two primary reaons. Lurkers who register, but generally just lurk; and spambots registering accounts which are promptly deleted and banned on their first post. I would say it's 95% lurkers and 5% spam accounts.

Oh my god. I deeply apologize to both of you. I have not encouraged newly registered users thus far.

This was just a suggesting that was whirling around in my head. What if, when a newly registered user joins, they receive an automatic private message from Susan. The automatic message would greet them, tell them where to make an introduction, link them to the rules, and name a handful of popular topics, such as, The Official 'You Look Badass, Dude', The official 'You look fabulous, darling!', and maybe also, 'What music are you listening to now?'.

Yes, people could also chip in, by sending a private message to those they spot who has 0 posts, or are newly registered. People could say something like, 'I noticed you were new/I notice you haven't posted yet, why not introduce yourself'. However, they might then become overwhelmed with how many people are asking them the same thing  :P

Have i made myself more clear now? Again, i apologize. I feel terrible for misleading you both. Shame i cannot deduct my own reputation :/

An automatic message doesn't mean as much as the ones they get from the staff and members of the site when they post their first introduction post, and they get all those responses!

Of course not. I am not saying to no longer have the introduction area. I am saying that i want to encourage users that have not posted, to post, and one way of tackling this would be to set up an automatic message.

An additional option would be to get members to private message users with 0 posts, and those that have made an introduction, so they feel eve more welcomed.

This is what i am getting out. Susan sends an automatic message to all newcomers (something along what i have said for Susan in the image). Other members, such as the moderators, if they notice a newly registered user that has yet to post, or someone that lurks but also has not posted, then we can further encourage them, by saying something similar to what i have said in the image.
