Uruguay on Wednesday voted to legalize same-sex marriage, becoming the thrid country in the Americas to do so, after Canada and Argentina. Same-sex couples can now marry, adopt or undergo in-vitro, choose the surname for their children, and now men and women can initiate divorce (previously, only women could seek divorce). The marriage laws will now be gender-neutral. '"We are living a historic moment," said Federico Grana, a leader of the Black Sheep Collective, a gay rights group that drafted the proposal. "In terms of the steps needed, we calculate that the first gay couples should be getting married 90 days after the promulgation of the law, or in the middle of July."'

"Outside congress, gay couples holding hands, ->-bleeped-<-s and transgender couples jumped in celebration when the result was announced. People in costumes carrying Uruguayan and rainbow flags danced to electronic music."

Sometimes I blog things

Of course I'm sane.  When trees start talking to me, I don't talk back.

Awe look how much more freedom everybody is getting that Americans aren't :)
To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are.

"Same sex couples will be allowed to apply to marry from Monday, nearly four months after a bill was approved by the country's Congress." It's estimated that half a dozen couples will apply in the coming days.

"Across Latin America, the number of countries allowing gay unions or marriages is growing."

What does it say that Catholic South America is more progressive than the US on this issue?
