Most youngish women in the UK seem to wear jeans, slacks, or trousers most times .... skirts only to work in an office or shop, or for a "night out", or casually if the weather's really, really hot.
Exception is teens who flount their bodies in micro minis (with opaque tights or leggings in hostile weather).
Go into town on a Saturday and no-one between the ages of 20 - 50 seems to be wearing a skirt ! I'd feel so overdressed wearing one ....
Personally I feel tight jeans or trousers flatter my figure far better than skirts .... just feel sooo much more sexy in them !
In warmer weather I go for the cropped variety revealing my lower legs in a really flattering way.
Longish skirts just scream "I'm fat .... I've got something to hide !", and I'm too old for minis, though I'm beggining to feel OK with this seasons tunic tops and leggings

.
Last year's ethnic patterned flouncy long skirts just turn me cold .... how did we think we ever looked good in those ?
My own skirt wearing tends to be a "winter thing", for the office and post-work drinks / dinners, with just above the knee smart tailored skirts, patterned or plain tights (sheer or thick if its cold), and high boots - really sexy

!
