Ok i have been wearing a wig for some time now. And to be quite frank it's pissing me off. I have decided that i am going to buy some hair extensions to clip in. only i am a bit worried my hair isnt quite long enough yet for this.

Currently my hair is around 3.5-4 inches long. i am not worried about coulor matching as i am quite willing to have my hair dyed to match if nessasary. and my hair is reasonably thick but i am unsure if the extensions will look right. and for a decent set with clips and a few other bits i need i will be spending around £80. i have this cash but not much more so dont want to waste it. does anyone use extensions and if so do you have any advice.

Try looking at the website haircrazy.info. You can go to the top, click on "articles" then scroll down to "extensions". There are a bunch of methods and how-tos.

There is also lots on YouTube.  The general consensus I have come across is your hair needs to be about 2" long minimum and about 6" makes it quite a bit easier.

Cool my hair is around 5 inches now so hopefully it will be fine. be nice to allow a bit more air to get around the top my head as well. bit sweaty wearing a wig in the heat at the mo. It will probably still be hot but got to be an improvement.

Well, you say you're willing to color your hair to match the extensions-- but that isn't just a one time expense. You might want to figure in the regular monthly root touch ups. Unforch, hair coloring is always a big commitment. I'd aim to match the extension color if at all possible.

It sounds like you're mostly just anxious to have long hair. If I were you I'd just forget clipping things in and let it grow. The less you mess with or damage your hair as it grows out the better. Put your mind on other things and your hair will be long before you know it.

Solved the dying problem. i have ordered two slightly different shades of extention. As far as clipping things in my hair goes it's got to be better than smothering it with a wig which is what i am doing at the moment. For me long hair is a confidence boost, it helps to frame my face and make me look more feminine. and while yes thats a bit of a vanity thing, that extra confidence makes me more i wont nessasarily say passable but people are less likely to stare. This doesnt bother me in general but if everysingle person is staring at me eventually it does start to get to you.

I'd be interested in hearing how well that works for you. As I've always understood, extensions really only look good if both the extensions and your own hair are at the right lengths (though, possibly, different lengths). It would seem to me that wearing them as your hair grows out might not work out so well after awhile. Perhaps I'm wrong, though.

Thats why i dont want to glue them or anything like that. clip in ones can be taken in and out as needed. Plus that means i can make alterations as nessasary. It will be another year by my calculations before my own hair is long enough without help.

I did not see this, but since I was taking a few photos, I can share:

Human Hair. They just matched my color using a catalog, ordered it and cut it to match the rest of my hair. Solves my problem with the temples and is more breathable and easier to adjust than a wig ig I have to remove it. The downside is that I need to be extracareful with the wing, or it hurts my hair when it pulls it, not to mention if my real front hair, longer than the extension moves back to the front (Hairpins before putting it). In the end, I carry a cap in my bag for emergencies.

BTW, the head is small and makes it look bigger.
