A play which could help change perceptions of transgender people in New Zealand will go ahead thanks to the funding of 83 donors.

North Canterbury playwright Robert Gilbert last night reached his funding target for the play Trans Tasmin.

Trans Tasmin explores the world of transgender Kiwis, through the character of a university student who has a transgender girlfriend and a cross-dressing stepfather.

Gilbert's transgender friend, Lexie Matheson, believed the play could help change people's perceptions on transgender people in New Zealand.
