Simple thread that I felt would be a bit fun and feeling a bit goofy as well as curious - How do you come up with your female name?

Chrystal

Ever since I was little I loved the name Chrystal. I'm not sure how I came up with it though :P
Xoxo,

Northern Jane

I adopted my name when I was about 4  years old and a new girl moved in to the area. I thought her name was the prettiest name I ever heard so I took it for myself. That was 60 years  ago! OMG I am getting OLD LOL! (And the name isn't Jane!)

I didn't really have to choose. I started thinking of possible names, the obvious being the one my parents would have named me. The second was the name of a character I wrote a couple of short stories about. And the third name was Jillian. As soon as it popped into my head, it was more like I was remembering it than choosing it. I thought, "oh yeah. I'm Jillian." Like somehow I always knew. It was kind of a weird feeling. But it just felt so right that I didn't bother thinking any further. I am Jillian.

I started a similar thread back in January. How I came to pick my name can be read in the opening post.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up my name to see what it means. I clicked on the Urban Dictionary link because those are usually fun. I was... surprised... by what I found there!

This is a complex name to understand let alone define. The reason this is so complicated is because the many theory's experts have come to. One of the theory's states that this name is only used for people with extreme power and or abilities like a goddess or pharaoh. The extent of this name cannot put into perspective for the simple fact that a word has not been created that fully describes her. Philosophers say Cleopatra was going to be named Jillian but once the power of the name alone was considered they decided she could not fulfill such large shoes.

We have been graced with few words/phases that describe Jillian.

Jillian is an incredible friend, who's loyal and wont stab you in the back. She has an amazing sense of humor and loves to laugh and have a good time. She may come up with some ideas that simple minded humans cannot see the point or concept, these ideas takes someone else who's name shares the same magnitude as hers. Because of this some may consider her and some of her ideas crazy, stop yourself from thinking this because this type of crazy is far past your imagination and should be thought of as a good thing. Shes a beautiful woman to say the least. Hot/sexy would also be another good term to address her appearance. Her intelligence is far beyond anything a simple mind can understand so dont even try to venture down that road. Simply put Jillian is awesome for lack of a better word.

That's just the first one! They're all like that! :D I wonder if they do that with every name?

Regardless, it made me feel really good. Somehow I feel more confident now, like the name really did pick me! Any confidence boost is a welcome one. :)

Wanted a Chatty Cathy doll for Christmas in 1958.  Never got the doll, but now I've taken the name Katherine (Kathy) for it's Finnish-Russian root, to alliterate with my last name, and because I couldn't have that doll.  Yeah, kind of childish.   ::)

I have a name in mind for when the time comes. I hope to go by the name: Elizabeth-Jadzia.

The first name is a nice, classic name. It should suit me rather well when I'm old and grey. The second name is actually the first name of a character from a TV series. I rather liked and admired her. Since I'm not transitioning at this time, I've not changed my name yet, as I'm still all manly (yuck!!) and I don't think Elizabeth-Jadzia would really suit my current appearance (yikes!!)!! When I change my name to go with my transition, it will be fun when people call me E.J., Liz, Elizabeth, or even just Beth, which is also quite nice. I was thinking originally about just feminising my current name. Christine would have sounded nice, but I worry that people would just get lazy and still call me Chris, so I decided it was best to find something definitely feminine. Besides, if I transitioned, I would want to separate my new identity from my old one as much as humanly possible and Christine or Christina wouldn't have made my life any easier. :'( Although, at the moment, I can buy clothes on eBay and not have to worry about the seller thinking to themselves "I wonder, is this a man or a woman?"!! Go figure.

I'm too indecisive because I still haven't come up with a name.  It's very frustrating.  Maybe I can use a symbol instead of a name, lol.  Even then I would still be at a loss.  Oh well.  I'm starting to think that I'll have my mom name me once she becomes more okay with everything.

I'll be watching this thread to gain some inspiration and perhaps some naming tactics.

The one I'm planning to use came from a funny story. When I was a teenager my older brother made an offhand comment that if he had a daughter he wanted to name her Patricia Marie(our last name is Smiley).

I just picked the female version of my birth name. I gave it very little thought and it feels very natural this way.
"Of course!"

I love zombies, and Carley was my favorite character in the walking dead video game. Complicated, I know

I love this, this thread really putting a smile on my face. I am not sure why just makes me feel happy.

Not a single story, idea or reason seems silly to me.

Well I've thought about what I liked to be called and I can never make up my mind. I thought using the female version of my name would be nice but its not a very common girls name. That would be Justina of course.

I always loved the name Tatum, but I'm worried about having a masculine name and now when people hear Tatum, they think Channing. I've also thought about Rebekah. I want something pretty but not common. I guess I still have awhile to figure it out.

Michelle G

Michelle is the girl version of my birth name and when I heard other girls go by it I felt it should be my name as well, at 8 I even asked my mother to call me Michelle, instead I just got a deer in the headlights stare and a "why on earth would we do that?" After a few other attempts to convince them I should be more like my sister I thought it safer to just hide in boy mode and keep it to myself..

I found out during a conversation with my mother about a decade ago my mother told me if she'd had a girl her name would be Hannah
