So I had a few questions about laser hair removal. I found a place and they look pretty good but wanted an opinion on if it was a good deal or average pricing.

For chin and moustache area it is $59 a session or 6 sessions for $299 which would make it $49.80 a session.

Which brings me to my next question (and I know it varies per person, my beard is average not overly course nor fine) how many sessions does it typically take to finish the job?

And thirdly for those who have gone through it what is the process? Do you have to not shave? Is there scabbing or anything like that?

I know these are probably very basic questions and I will read up more, it's just I haven't really thought about this till really recently. Thanks in advance

When i did mine i did like 10 sessions and that cleard my full beard. I then did electrolysis after as things started to grow back along with the white hairs.

It was a good 4 years that where very slow regrowth. Its something you have to decide do you want a fast clearing then work on getting them little buggers blasted for good. Or just work on electrolysis from the start.

Wish there was a easier way. Just nothing about being a girl is cheap.

Yay! This is a wonderful step! :icon_joy:

I'm on my 4th session in a couple of weeks, and it has started to thin a bit, but still pretty obvious.  There are a lot of variables -- you can only go every 6 weeks because of the "resting time" that hair has. Essentially, if you go earlier, you won't have anything to zap. You have to wait for the regrowth.

You do need to shave - preferably just before you go in. I have my entire face and neck cleared each session, and it is about 30-45 minutes. They use a Lightsheer Duet which is painful as all getout, but not as bad as electrolysis. Laser has permanent hair reduction, and electrolysis is hair elimination.  Essentially, you will never kill everything with laser, but you can get really close and save a lot more money and pain by starting that route before finishing up with electro.

Your face will more than likely be really red for a day or so after. A bag of frozen corn seems to soothe mine along with a generous amount of aloe cream.  I am one of the unfortunate people who, despite not having acne since I was a kid over 20 years ago, break out in really bad acne afterward. Essentially, between the redness and acne it looks like I have moderately bad razor burn for about 10 days after my laser sessions.

If you can get a session on a Friday (they fill up) I would recommend doing that - it gives you the weekend to recover. Also, you may want to check on the laser they use - I have heard several people say IPL (i.e. pulse light) is not good on MtF hair and you would waste your money. I have never gone that route, but there are a couple of threads here about it.

Basically, plan for 30-45 minutes and during that time you will probably get something like 20-30 pulses from the laser. You'll smell slightly burned skin, and singed hair, and the laser pulse will feel like a brief but intense cigarette burn where it hits your skin. At the point where you are ready to scream out for "Mercy!!" it is over. You then give them your credit card, and go out in your car and cry to yourself tears of joy because you are finally making progress (as you look in the mirror at your slightly beat up and red face).

Oh yeah - you probably won't want to shave for a day or two after.

Good luck - let us know how it goes!

Toni

PS - I have only had one slight burn, and no scabbing. You can get Biafine ointment to help the healing if you have any problems. I was told 8 - 10 sessions to fully clear. 6 sessions to see favorable results. Electro to finish the job.

One thing I noticed with the link you shared is that the clinic seems to use IPL. I have no experience with this, but here is a thread that discussed it:

Again, not trying to dissuade you or get you discouraged, but as expensive as this stuff is you should make an informed decision.

Hello ladies.  I'm about to begin laser on September 14th!

They use the Lightsheer also.  My pricing is similar.

1/2 Face (side burn to side burn, upper lip, chin, and jaw line)  $65 per session.  I went to the office with a 20 hour beard.  The consultant said she couldn't see it.   She said that men with much more facial hair and very course usually only need 8-10 treatments.  With the amount of facial hair I have, she felt confident I'll need 6-8 at the most.

They charge $70 for the full neck (all the way around).  I told her I need the front part of my neck and sides only.  She said that will be up to the RN that does the procedure.  That she might charge me less than the $70. I'm hoping that I can get both done for about  $100 per session.

God luck Monica! The Lightsheer is supposed to be one of the best. The first session is exciting. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long between sessions!
