make me less scared of spiders?

Ha, ha, thinking of silly things!!! If only!!!!!!!! lol

My mind wondered to that thought and it literally made me laugh, so decided to share it here.

Not a serious question of course before anyone tries answering it :D

Actually, in all seriousness, I have found that things have a lot less "ick" factor for me. That sound ludicrous, but I found that before the skin on the palms of my hands got thicker, crushing spiders was nasty because I could feel it on my finger tips. And picking up worms in the garden was gross because I could feel their slimy skin all over my palms. Now, that there's a lot less tactility in my hands, I can pick up worms and crush spiders no problem.

Well I agree with Caleb. That's happened with me too. I somehow briefly lost my ability to pee in a cup, so got pee all over my hands and some splashes on my pants. I started laughing. I don't think I would have done that before. But not sure as I don't know that that had happened.

I have never been afraid of insects (maybe its a social thing, I always associate fear of spiders with women) so I dont turn into a pansy and kill them, but I have never really liked bees. Still think its ludicris to kill them though. I cant recall ever seeing a dude say "eww gross kill it" . I found that after testosterone I became slightly less worried when they landed on me. But I am also a more scientific guy and I think insects are interesting rather than 'gross'.

I hated spiders before and I hate them now.

I'm the one to freak out if I'm caught in a close situation, but I'll leave them be if they're passing by. Example: In my house they die. Once there was a spider on the roof in my car when I looked up and I literally threw myself halfway out the window while I yelled at my SO to kill it. Another time one crawled up my leg at the cashier at a store and I gave a yelp, flailed it off, and smashed it.

If they're outside and not on me, then I leave them alone and just suffer feeling grossed out.
I'll be there someday, I can go the distance
I will find my way, If I can be strong
I know every mile, Will be worth my while

When I go the distance, I'll be right where I belong

I've never minded spiders, unless they're invading my personal space, i.e laying in bed watching a film and looking down to discover a spider crawling across my chest.  Or when they have the annoying habit of sitting on the ceiling directly above the shower, and I have to waste time getting them down in case they decide to drop on my head while I'm in there.  I tend to just put them under a jug, they always manage to get out, and I don't have to kill them when they're not doing any harm.  My house is pretty much full of spiders, but apparently they eat Deathwatch Beetles, so we welcome them (expect my girlfriend doesn't agree...)

I did have a random question of whether T would make me like eating kidney and liver, seeing as I've only ever seen men have a steak and kidney pie.

I wish it would make me less scared of needles - LOL. Nah, I'm fine with needles. I'm one of those people who like to watch so that I get some illusion of control over what's happening.

I used to be terrified of spiders myself, but then I read Richard Dawkins' Climbing Mount Improbable, in which he went into some detail about the evolution of spiders, the different types of webs they produce, and the function of these different webs. I had no idea that spiders were so complex, or so interesting. I was surprised to find that after learning about spiders from an evolutionary biologist's perspective I completely lost my irrational fear of them.

I can relate to this a lot. Sometimes I still run away from bees and wasps but I'm allergic to them so maybe that has something to do with it (or at least I tell myself that it's the reason lol)

We have an almost Arachnophobia (the movie) level of spider invasion in our house, and I am always the one that has to kill them. There are these translucent ones that show up in the shower (not fun) and weird looking ones that hover over doorways. Some of the large ones get smart and only run along the wall near the trim where it is hard to smash them.

The worst are the ones that dangle from the middle of the ceiling right over your head.

At least there no bugs around because of them, but the problem is seriously starting to get out of control. I had to get over my fear to kill them because my two male roommates run from the room screaming at the sight of one. I guess the area I live in is prone to them or something.

I seriously couldn't deal that. There's no way I'd be able to sleep in that house. Yuck!!!

It's funny, because the other day I was leaning up against a house with some other cisguys (we were sitting) and the first dude in the row says, "Hey look at that huge spider. It's walking your way too dude." and the guy between him and me suddenly shot off the ground and freaked out while I scooted away from the house. The guy at the end of the row (on my other side) is laughing when the dude freaking out is like, "It's coming your way!" and this guy also suddenly shoots off the ground. He's like 6'4 and all muscles.  :D

What really scares me are the Brown recluse spiders. The skin around the area where they bite can become really infected. And, they live in houses.

There are none of those around here, but there are Black Widows, though I have never seen one.

interesting considering you may be killing the black widow's pretador. (other spiders). remember that if you get bitten ;)

I've wondered if I will become less picky with food.  I hope so. Not sure if I'd ever be able to get used to kidney or liver though.

As for spiders, I have always put on a tough-guy face.  "Oh, it's just a spider what's your problem!?" meanwhile, my skin is crawling.  Most of the time though, bugs only bother me if I see them running around in my room, especially at night.  I just imagine them crawling up my nose or into my mouth or ears while I'm sleeping... and earwigs give me the creeps but I wonder if that's mostly because I was traumatized when I was a kid after putting my hand into a bag of potatoes only to find them crawling with earwigs. OTOH I love silverfish. I sometimes see them slithering around on my bathroom floor. They're my little buddies! I've recently discovered that I love bug exhibits.  There was a really good one at a mall not long ago.  Spiders bigger than my hand and massive cockroaches and beetles.  So freekin' cool!  ;D
