I was just curious as I am a hairstylist and know that genetic females hair grows faster then males. Does this apply when on HRT, does the hair grow longer faster?

Just curious because 6 or so months ago I got the brilliant idea to have a mohawk. I had tons of fun with it and loved it, but the growing out process is taking FOREVER. I color my hair and bleach it, this is true, at the same time though I know what I am doing and there is very little damage. I don't overlap bleach etc. I could get very specific, but basically my hair is in good shape just taking a long time to grow out.

Both my brothers went very thin in their mid 20's and pretty much bald in front by their 30's. I am 35 and haven't had my hairline recede, I have a male hairline but not thinning at all. When I was 22 I started HRT, only for 9 months though. I am very curious though if that little stint of T blockers and estrogen was just enough to stop me from going through the same thing?? And I'm guessing now that I'm on HRT will it speed up the filling out process and or growth process?? Especially since my body responded to HRT in the past??

You might have lucked out on the genetics, as compared to your brothers.

There are two medications, Proscar (finasteride) and Avodart (dutasteride) which were developed to block the action of testosterone in an enlarged prostate, and were found to have positive effects on the regrowth of scalp hair.  As I recall, they work by preventing the conversion of testosterone into DHT - the main culprit in male pattern baldness.

Finasteride for hair growth is marketed as Propecia.

Was your Grand dad on your Mum's side balding? If so the baldness gene is passed through the mother.I had a slightly receding hairline and a small bald patch at the crown,18 months of HRT filled in the bald patch and the receding hair stopped and increased very slightly

Yep he was bald, all fingers pointed towards bald, I've been paranoid since high school lol.

Also from what I read Spiro also blocks DHT, so I guess I'm saved

Curious on anybody else's opinions and wikipedia isn't always correct and can be misleading. That is where I read spiro blocks DHT too??

Does it? How much faster? I'm curious, currently my hair reaches about 2/3 way down from my nipples towards my navel but I haven't paid close attention to how long it took to grow that long. Maybe I'll start paying attention now. How fast is hair supposed to grow in biological males vs females...?

Not exactly sure as to how faster, but it does grow faster. I notice with all the females I work with their hair grows way faster than mine! For example I've probably grown mine a half inch in the last approx 2 months give or take and my employee who's genetic female has grown probably an inch if not more o.O

Now her hair seems to just be fast growing in general, but her being a female is part of that ;)

I used to have hair about 3-4 inches past my nipples during my most "boyish" phase. Then chopped it off because I always wore it in a bun and never wore it down. Didn't see the point in it, now I'm like oh mah gah!!! GROW DAMNIT!!!  >:-)
