Gaff - great or useless?

Okay, sorry to bother you, but I felt that this is rather a question for crossdressers. As MtF get SRS most of the time, they might care less for the time before. Crossdressers on the other hand have to deal with the private parts forever, right?

So, the question is: Are gaffs useful? If they are, can you give recommendations on which gaff to use? If not, is there anything else to try short of tucking?

Are gaffs to be used like tuckings? I have minor problems to push my testes into the cavities as I had some surgery when I was 7. One of the cavities has shrunk through this process.

I so want to dress, but I'm afraid of any paux-pas that might happen with my private parts...

Do you have any recommendations?

I have to say that I have never been able to do any of the tucking techniques successfully, which I deeply resent. After years I figured out what is to be done, and I can certainly place my testes inside the cavities, but they will always drop out of those pockets, sooner or later; I'm quite sure that in my case they need to be taped into place, which I'm not quite happy to do! Perhaps — and I'm just speculating! — some people develop some muscles allowing them to keep the testes inside the cavities, and this might be something you can learn or exercise, but, in my case, I haven't figured out how.

I still try to do my best with a gaff. But in my experience, most gaffs will not work very well. In fact, I have bought many, but just two will work properly to a degree. One advantage I see is that technically you can use a gaff both for "tucking" (i.e. replacing taping/gluing...) but also simply to give your bulge a much flatter appearance, which works quite nicely in my case, and is quite comfortable to wear for extended periods.

But I'm quite sure that the same can be accomplished with tight panties made of a strong material. The gaffs I've bought from online shops catering to CD needs are expensive — $35 or so each. For less than $10 I can buy tight panties on any (physical) shop around here, and all I need to worry about is how strong the material is (the less it stretches in the front part, the better they will hold everything in place). Panties also usually look much more feminine, gaffs are often (not always) purely utilitarian and functional and absolutely unsexy.

On the other hand, a good gaff will last for a long, long while. I have one which has lasted 15 years (the other 7 or 8) with weekly use :) So maybe the high price tag was worth it.
Don't judge, and you won't be judged.

I also agree with the tight panties theory, usually I just don't worry about the bulge as I could never pass, so basically just a man in a dress to the outside world, but thats neither here nor there. A pair of boy short a size smaller than you are should flatten things pretty decently!
Work it in to work it out!
