365 Gay
Q&A: Rebecca Stotzer
by Jennifer Vanasco, 365Gay.com

Do you think that transgender hate crimes are wrapped up in the gay hate crime numbers?

I do. Prior research surveyed transgender people specifically and asked about which crimes did they think were motivated based on homophobia and which were based on gender identity. They actually found quite similar rates.

Granted some people with non-conforming gender identities are LGB's so there is some overlap there. When people victimize someone, there could be an overlap between sexual orientation and gender identity.
