Hi, I'm new, I'm scared, I have questions! :)
I have a general question about therapy, probably already answered elsewhere: is it better to start with a psychologist or a psychiatrist? I know the difference between the two, but i don' know i it makes a difference to things like time to diagnosis, time to begin hormone therapy, etc.
Thanks!

As long as they have knowlege of the WPATH standards of care i would say either would do. Key is getting someone who knows GID.
Just a side note i had a psychiatrist ask me as her first question did i prostitue myself. Was who was on call at the local hospital mental floor. So not everyones paper hanging on the wall is equal.

But glad you are looking into some type of therapy, it can be worth its weight in gold and help a lot.

No reason to be scared, Ande.  We are pretty nice people, and many of us have been in you same position.

Your profile says "Southern Arizona," so I am going to take a statistical guess and say you are probably close to one of the major metropolitan areas.  There are transgender services in many parts of Arizona, and we have quite a few Arizonans here who can guide you to reputable therapists/psychiatrists.

Good luck.

Hi Ande, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 7406. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another member.
