it is to prevent infection...condoms are supposed to be sterile.
and it is way easier to slide in without. i was being very careful and used condoms even in the 3rd month, but it just got too hard. i think it is okay to go without condoms after the first mth!

Hi Cherrie,

I use a product called Surgilube.  It feels just like the QC lube provided in Chonburi.
It doesn't seem like the Surgilube dries out, but then again I am extremely generous
with the lube.

I stopped using condoms as soon as I returned home.

Best Wishes,
Elaina

I don't use condoms. My surgeon never mentioned them. I just put lube (mineral oil) directly on the dilator and insert. I'm pretty wet in there to begin with... but if I wanted extra lubrication, how about putting some lube on a q-tip and inserting. They make longer handled q-tips like these:

Hi Cherrie,

Check out the following link and see if this is the type of applicator you want.

Now those look intriguing... never seen something like that before.

My GP recommended Vagisil lube (it's the same as KY Silk-E, but a bit cheaper off Amazon than that is), and I've found that I can use a LOT less of it and get the same effect, and it doesn't dry out on me like standard KY.

I never used condoms, though... instead we were told to soak our dilators in sterilizing solution afterward. I also bought some of those yeast infection cream applicators (and just discarded the cream itself) and it was a huge help in terms of getting enough lube deep inside; when I was using those, I soaked them in the same sterilizing hibiclens mix as the dilators. Now I just wash my dilators with antibacterial soap, and stopped needing the applicators. If I did use an applicator now, I think I'd probably soak it again, b/c those have more hard-to-clean crevices than a dilator.

JennaX.........   Wondering if it was your surgeon who recommended using Mineral Oil??   McGinn??   anyway ..wanted to ask if that helped during Dilation??..  I am 9 months post and have used Surgilube, and Sliquid, but always find that It's difficult to remove dilators ( Vapor Lock )..lol...  and tried a very thin smear of Mineral oil for the first time along with some surgilube on my dilator and that seemed to help..and was able to get a little deeper with it as well..

So wondering if anyone has heard anything about using an oil type lube in conjunction with their normal lube.  anyine heard about using Vitamin E instead of mineral oil???

I found it was easier and less painful to do it without the condom.  I just washed the stents with anti-bacterial dish washing soap, dried them and put them back in the box.  I ordered a ton of Surgilube and it was cool that it came in tin tubes instead of plastic but K-Y or generic  K-Y type lube works fine too.  The tin tubes were nice because they don't spring back like the plastic tubes and suck in a bunch of air making it more difficult to dispense.  Just store your tubes of lube upsidedown if you are stuck with plastic.

Yep. I went to McGinn. She recommends straight mineral oil... Not to mix it with anything. I've never tried anything else for comparison... But I have no complaints either.   ;D

Not tried Vitamin E oil either.

I also read about Premarin cream to make the tissue softer. Can someone tell me how and where to use it exactly? And can you buy it without prescription somewhere? Online?
Both premarin and estrace vaginal cream are prescription only substances.
