Figured I'd update this...
So I've been shedding massive amounts of hair for about 2 months. Been on T 5 months or so. I'm losing about 300 hairs a day and I can now see my scalp on the top and sides of my head. I'd say I've lost about 1/4 of my hair, overall.
I have found this very alarming, to say the least. Definitely not the gradual recession of the hairline that I was anticipating (and kind of looking forward to, tbh). This is more equivalent to what I was seeing when my mother was on chemotherapy for cancer...
So I talked to my doc, who has dealt with lots and lots of transmen. When I first told her about the hair, she told me that perhaps I was meant to be a bald guy. Which I totally get...if I had been on T a couple years and the thinning was gradually happening. But then she conferred with another doc there that has a lot of transmen patients, and they both agreed that my hairloss is really rapid for this short of a time on T.
She prescribed finasteride, but warned me that most transmen (especially younger guys) hate the side effects, and that it might not help in my case at all - but I could take it if I want. She suggested I first try cutting my T to 3/4 or 1/2 a dose. So this past shot, I did 3/4 of my usual dose. Not sure how many weeks of this it will take to see if it's helping.
I'm an otherwise healthy guy. The rapid progression from thick hair to thin scraggly hair all over in a matter of weeks has been really stressful, especially not knowing whether it really is mpb or just some drastic shedding. I'm leery of low dose T (or Finasteride) when I haven't even remotely had the masculinization I was hoping for yet...I haven't even had a half year, sheesh!
So that's where I'm at. If anyone wants to share any Finasteride stories or shedding stories or happy thoughts about going bald, please do! (Just don't mention how hot vin diesel looks because I don't remotely look that masculine and badass, lol...apples and oranges!)
