Does HRT help at all to alleviate facial hair? I mean, does it at least make it grow in slower/finer? I know I've read a ton about getting electrolysis for facial hair, but I was just wondering whether HRT had any effects whatsoever.
Katie Rhae, here. Now get me a craft beer.

I noticed that my facial hair was growing in slower on HRT, but wasn't getting any finer.  As far as I know, hair shifts from vellus to dark hair due to trauma to the follicle/nearby skin.  This mechanism is prompted by testosterone.  HRT assists the hair removal by stopping the conversion to dark hair.  It is the combination of laser/electrolysis to destroy existing fuzz and hrt to prevent usual regrowth that allows permanent dark hair removal.

I think was quite lucky regarding body hair in the first place, it's always been quite light and was only really noticeable on my legs and lower belly.  It was when I finally got 2-3 wispy hairs on my chest at 29 that my dysphoria got really bad, realising that if I didn't do something soon that the rest of me was going to fill in!

Lol I know what you mean Kaylee!

I lucked out too. I have dark body hair on my legs and a very little on my chest and tummy, and thankfully none on my back. I seriously cannot wait to rid my body of all that pesky hair!

Is laser removal permanent? My roommate has a do-it-yourself laser hair remover kit. I was thinking about giving that a try, but was kinda nervous about using it around my face.

When is a good time to start electrolysis? I just started seeing my therapist, so I'll start HRT within a couple months, probably.

I haven't really noticed much, but I'm early into it and try to shave as much as possible (though I do get frustrated and lazy).  The hair doesn grow back as fast and it's not as intense in some areas; however, it's not enough for me to feel satisfied.  If you can afford it, I would just go for laser.  I'm going to first go for my face and then consider getting everything else done if it isn't too bad; although, something is telling me it is, lol.

It really isn't that bad! i've been getting it done on my chest/shoulders/back/underarms and even the most sensitive spots are a slight sting that only lasts a second or so. A lot of people compare it to somebody snapping a rubber band against your skin, but I think even that's worse than it actually is.

The face is definitely the most sensitive though, if you can handle that you can handle the rest of your body (well, save the brazilian area maybe) with no issue.

It's mostly permanent, though apparently yearly top ups can be necessary.  I'm probably wouldn't recommend doing it yourself on your face, I'd be scared of accidently zapping something important...laser to the eye would not be fun!!!

How dark is your facial hair?   Laser treats a wider area at a time.  I get my entire face done each sitting and there is definite improvement after only 4 sessions, my plan is to do that until the dark hairs are gone then electro on any remaining fuzz if needed (hopefully the hrt will help with them as well.

If it's dark enough to take laser I'd go with that as a first port of call, then see what needs doing when the dark hair is dead.

I have my first consult with the vein an laser doctor friday at 2pm (tomorrow) to start hair removal they use IPO process not sure exactly what that means just yet but they say it less painful and will cover a larger spectrum of hair and face pigments. being a red head with light color facial hair I hope it works. I will post more about that method after I go and see what it is about.

Oh, I'm sure pain wise it's tolerable.  Even if it weren't, I would still go through with it, lol. I was referring to financial strain more than anything.  But it's getting tiring to constantly shave, so I'll see how much it is and compare the costs with the money I'm going to be making from my new job.

My facial hair isn't too dark. I'm a natural blonde, so my facial hair is a mix of darker hair and white hair. Luckily it doesn't grow that fast either. I'll probably give laser treatment a try first.

Yeah my roommate's laser hair thingy is kinda scary. Hurt like heck when turned up!!! I'm slightly apprehensive about using it on my face. Maybe after a few glasses on wine...

everything that i've read indicates that home lasers are a bit lacklustre ["entirely useless" is a more common phrase]
...whether that is because they really are a bit carp, or if it's because the people using and reviewing haven't given the necessary time, i don't know.
i'm up to my sixth professional session and it's only just starting to show a real effect.
it's certainly painful on the face, but speaking for myself, any pain is endurable to get rid of the hideous stubble that stands between me and The Pass.
it doesn't necessarily have to be ridiculously expensive, either; i got one of those Scoopon deal things and got six months worth of treatment [six-odd sessions] for $200 aud.
again, anything is worth finally being free of it.

18 months low dose.  For reference:
E levels are 10% under endows usual target range for transition, T levels are extreme low male range.
Electro was complete over 10 years ago, but I have about a dozen or so remaining facial hairs that keep coming back.   Growth rate on those are very slow - 4 days for stubble that is worth shaving.

Body hair on legs is getting wispy, the density dropping over time.

Thanks for the tip Laura! I might just use that home remedy kit to rid myself of a few hairs that decide to stick around after my professional sessions. I've found some excellent deals on Groupon, so I might have to check those out. By the way, you are beautiful Laura!

no problem! i am just glad that my experiences can be of help to someone at all! my only extra advice with the groupon thing is that you talk to the girls who actually perform the treatment and make sure they know what they're doing; i've had a couple of girls who just blustered through it and were worse than useless, but it's pretty easy to tell and once i bought it to the attention of the more senior members of the clinic they were all sympathies and help and striking the useless session from my account. as usual in the world communication is key ofc.
also, you're very sweet, but ssshhh..... i have SO FAR to go before i can even be considered human.. i'm just good at the Punk Sneer [tm] ;3

Cyproterone acetate can help get rid of body hair but allowed to take depends on medical history etc...

Hope that helps a little  :)
