Hey everybody -

I saw this TED talk the other day and thought of folks like us who employ body language and posture to great (or sometimes terrible) effect.

The presenter also talks about the benefits of hormones (specifically -- yes, even for women! -- testosterone) and how they affect confidence and mood. Worth the 20 minutes if you have it.

Hope you are well!

I've always stood behind "fake till you make it". Though I wouldn't consider emulating other women in order to pass as faking.

'Well, fake it 'til you make it' is obviously a glib way to put it. But emulation? Yes ... And her point was specifically geared toward folks without confidence, who don't think they've got what it takes. In that context, 'fake it 'til you become it' does work ...

Doctorwho?

WOW! I came to this forum, in part to offer my support, to you folks. Now I find that it is you who are supporting me.

I have my clinical skills class tomorrow. Last week it did not go so well... and as I looked around the room at all my colleagues performing the examination that I had just fumbled I felt like "Maybe I'm a fraud as a medic and I'm not supposed to be here!"

Then someone brilliantly posts this!!! :D Well thank you so much ladies, this video is exactly what I needed to help me perform better tomorrow.

I remember seeing this episode on my Netflix about two or three weeks ago. It was very interesting, and I can definitely see how people use it all the time without realizing it too. 'Fake it until you become it' is how I find most people handle the overwhelming dread that we're not good enough. Definitely worth a second watch. Thanks for posting. :)

i think it was in grade school that i first learned bout how to use body language to display confidence to an audience. we trained to take a more powerful pose, and interestingly, this has enabled me to confidently speak to any kind of audience. i'm not afraid when up there giving some kind of speech, i really believe that i can do it better than anyone else. even though i'm often a nervous wreck when off the scene... i've been working for a while on opening my body and taking up more space, going by a fake it till you make it strategy. only thing that was new to me is how effectively it reduces stress hormones. i'll start more actively regaining power when i'm stressed out and too anxious to think straight.

heh, i'm the best!
(power speaking also helps, and even more if spoken out loud. that principle of kotodama)

I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time." Jack London
