SRS_Where do you think that I should go

Here is a question for all. I have been saving I mean really scrimping for a very long time. I wanted to go to , Trindad Co. or in Scottsdale Az. but I have managed to save only about one half of the cast.

I have looked at a couple of Doctors in Thailand, and I have almost enough money to do it this way.

But I am kind of unsure about having medical procedures done outside the U.S> passport problems for one pop in to my mind. I was also in thailand a long time ago in the Army and it did not impress me all that much.

Is it really a wise idea to consider SRS there.

Maybe you could consider about Dr. Brassard in Montreal, Canada. Very professional clinic, reasonable price, all included services and the most important - very good result...

Well GRS is such a personal thing, everyone has their own ideas.  I had looked at the top thai surgeons and they are good.  Dr. Chet.  seems to be more consistant at the moment.  Me after weighting all the pro's and cons I think I'm going to visit montreal next spring/ early summer.  Cost wise, it is only 3-4 k more and a 16 hour shorter flight home, and a really first class operation.  I've not heard one bad story about the boys in canada. 

Just my two cents, which is about all it's worth.

A post op woman said dr. Brassard is a butcher and I was shocked. I 've always heard good things about him.

Here's my methodology for sorting through the possibilities:

1.  Search the internet for horror stories.

2.  Research the different techniques - Is it one stage or two stage?  Penile inversion or scrotal?  Use of urethral mucosa, or not?

3.  Search for horror stories.

4.  Request information on the doctors' recommended dilation regimen.  This can give an indication of the extent of reconstruction that the doctor performs, and how much surgical trauma you will undergo.

5.  Search for horror stories.

6.  If a surgeon is presenting at a convention and you can afford it, go!  Take lots of notes.  Ask lots of questions.  Take the surgeon's comments about other doctors with a grain of salt.,  Same with the gushing comments by his or her graduates (they WILL be in the audience...)

7.  Search for horror stories.

The final choice is up to you.  Make an INFORMED decision, and make rational trade-offs.  Perfection of results is not guaranteed, but the attempt may guarantee a longer, more painful and exhausting recovery.  Maybe going with a surgeon whose technique is less invasive will lead to a higher chance of acceptable results and you will have a faster, less painful recovery.

The choice of surgeons is personal, but also depends on geography, cost, time you can spare, expenses for the trip and how confident you feel with the surgeon themselves.

I did lots of research and also talked directly to the surgeons concerned (good surgeons will do this) and also spoke (and saw) examples of their work.

All surgery carries risks, we must never forget that, but my understanding is there(so far) has never been a fataility during surgery itself.

I ended up with a short list of 3 and narrowed this down further.

I ended up in Thailand with Dr Suporn, spent 28 days there and had a wonderful experience, despite a 14 hour flight time.

Do the research... It pays off.

If I could afford it, I would go to Meltzer, Brassard, or Bowers in a heartbeat. I have met many gals who went to all three and none of them ever had a problem and loved the final result. I did check into Dr Chet in Thailand and if I had enough money to go there and probably would not be able to gather enough $$$ for the other three I mentioned, I would go to him. I have exchanged emails and have seen some really nice things written up by his previous patients. He has come a long way in the last few years.

My roomie went to Dr. Brassard....first class treatment and the man is an artist.   Dr. Brassard is my first choice and Dr. Bowers is my second....but as mentioned it's a very personal choice.  Research, research, research and follow your heart

I've to agree that your roomie made a very good choice. I'm a Dr. Brassard girl too (Just 3 monthes post-op and got my first post-op orgasm). Everything there with Dr.Brassard is great, the only thing disappointed me was the recovery clinic. I've heard a lot of great stories and experience about the famous La Maison de l'Isle. I was really looking forward to something similar about the new recovery place, but unfortunately it turns out to be a cold/boring clinic (mixed with different type of patients from different private hospitals), no any family atmosphere like the old place (La Maison de l'Isle). I got the feeling it's more like a business/benifit orentated clinic with an un pleasant location... I've heard Dr.B is planning to buy a place just nearby his hospital to build his own recovery residence. Hope this will come to be true soon... But anyway I already missed that part...

Btw, I read from a website, it says Dr. Bowers is a post-op trans too... Is that true?

There are several surgeons in the UK, James Bellringer, Phil Thomas and Tim Terry.

I suggest you look them up on the internet, they all have their pluses and minuses.

I was going to end up with Terry, having gone through Leicester GIC, but ended up going abroad after meeting two of the three above.

The doctor who performed mine, sorry he's retired, said that one of the most noticable differences between the male and female genitals if that females have a wet mucosa or wet look in the center and I would have to agree. Some doctors won't do this because of the risk of blood loss but for me I'm glad I had it done because now I'm living with the results for the rest of my life. If blood loss is a concern, you could have some drawn now and stored for when you have the operation.
Also I have heard that if something goes wrong overseas doctors in the U.S. won't want to do corrective surgery and you will have to go back to where you got it done originally.

Not necessarily true.  I bumped into Dr. Meltzer [my surgeon] last month, and he told attendees at the workshop he was doing that he has performed repairs for many girls who had had problems from surgeries performed by others.  No, he didn't mention names, but he did show some horrific fotos of bad results.

I don't think you have much to worry about if you go to one of the well known surgeons.  You don't want to go to a cutrate back alley surgeon or one who performs only a few surgeries per year.  Practice makes perfect.

I've no idea where to go in the U.K for genital surgery. Before that I need to get everything else in order and I do believe looking female is more important than SRS. For me the primary female characteristics are face and bodyshsape and those are the areas I need to work in first. So far I'm not happy with my appearance which doesn't look female or does it?.
