Can you develop new hair follicles after all have died?

Hey everyone I am curious about the human body and hair follicles.

From what I understand when a hair follicle dies via electrolysis or laser though that follicle is gone for good regrowth will probably occur from dormant hair follicles springing into life. Now what I'm curious about is there a limit to how many dormant hair follicles remain I.e say over a period a total of 900 hairs are killed on a specific cm2 area of the chin. Now as I recall the biological male chin can average 900 hairs per cm2 so if they are all dead will that area never have hair again or can new follicles develop?

Seems like once the papilla in the bulb is dead, it is gone for good. Kind of like what happens in male pattern baldness. The body is very adaptable though and it might take a lot of effort to finally terminate the bulb. Example, chemo is hard on the body and hair, but even after that hair does come back. My first science paper was.

'Hair growth cycles in Rattus rattus'

A  long time ago.

The answer was no.

New follicles develop, at least in the rat under a hormonal control cycle but existing ones do not regenerate once they have died.

I have an unfortunate thought that I wrote that paper before you were a twinkling in your parents eyes!!!

It was also the basis of why we are given AA to control male hair cycles. So in a way I'm responsible for some TG medicine!

Glad you asked.

Since we had to take hair from them every six hours every day for months they had to be comfortable with us. We washed and bathed them and they were very comfy. We took hair by running sticky tape (Brand name) over set areas. Jeez this is a long time ago, and measuring every hair collected with calipers. Oh the stats, Ahhhh Bill Gates my have been born but computers had not. 500 hairs each from seven sites from six rats. I still have the hard copy.

Hell woman I got the first hand held HP calculator. We could print routines on strips and re-feed them in.

I did all the stats by hand.
Oh sorry we had things called pencils and paper.

Well I just started a vitamin C topical 4 week test on the top of my head. I will let you know (link 1). FGF9 costs $255 for 50 ng. Too expensive for a topical approach. They growing hair on scars with FGF9 (link 2) in a place close to my work.
