I have so many stupid questions, and I have no where to ask them except here. Also, if any of them offend anyone, sorry.

~When applying for a job, can I put my preferred name/gender on the application, or does it have to be the legal name?

~Where and how do I start tansitioning, and do I need a therapst person?

~Which binder works best? Can I sew a zipper onto a binder to make it easier to put on/take off, or would that mess something up?

That's all I can think of right now, but there's probably more.

No need for apologies, support is often question and answer and how to do you get answers if you don't question.

You do need to put your legal name but can use quotes to denote your preferred name.

~Where and how do I start transitioning, and do I need a therapist person?

There are many ways to begin and it depends on where you are at. You may not need a therapist but having one an help expedite things and give you a place to discuss problems that arrive. Informed consent is available in many places.

The binder that works best often depends on your individual body shape and size. For me,  a surgical binder with hook and eye closures did very well as did a back  support wrap from K Mart. If you are a semi skilled tailor, putting in a zipper will work depending on which binder you have. It is possible to buy them with zippers also.

I hope these replies are useful and feel free to add questions  as you find them.

To the best of my knowledge you would have to apply with your legal name.  Mainly because they will need to verify your identity withh social security once you are employed.  If your records don't match, it may be hard to get a job.

You don't need to see a therapist to transition, but it certainly helps.  Most people go to a therapist to get their hrt letter and then take that letter to an endocrinologist that will prescribe you the meds.  As lordkat said, there are different ways, but that's the traditional path.

Can't answer question 3.

Good luck!

Thanks for the answers.

I already have a binder that I bought on someone's recommendation. I askedmy grandma if she could sew a zipper on the side for me.
Or maybe it should be on the front.. I don't know.

Another question, does it get any easier telling people?
I've told two people, and that was nerve wracking.

Another question, how did you go about telling friends/family? I have yet to tell anyone..

As long as your legal name has been updated with all agencies *SSA,any insurance you have and so on* then you can use your new name.If not, only use your legal documented name but as above, you can also add your prefered name.

I agree with the above on hormones and so on.Transitioning is a personal experience and not one that needs the approval of anyone. This can go from presenting as yourself.*clothes, and over all persona*

Never put a zipper on a binder. The reason for this is because,it works as a compression system and over time, the zipper would break down and bust open.Thats why binders do not come with zippers as is.They are ment for their current design in order to hold very tightly and compress the body.

Depending on the friends/family's views, could determine how well that goes over and how well coming out will be.Its best to ask them about their views on the LGBTQ first without coming out. This normally will speak to if they will be accepting or not.Once you know, then go from there.Age plays a bigger part when it comes to independence in this choice. So keep that in mind.

Oh, what about one of the hook closure things? Would that work?

Some binders come with zippers or hook and eye closures. Type of zipper and style of binder along with your body shape and size make a difference on how successful adding a zipper would be. Using hook and eye allows for some adjustment to fit but does not hold as well. If you have  a small chest , it will be less of a problem than if you are large chested.

I think I'll stick with the zipper, seems like it'd work better.

If some do come with a zipper *mind you i have never SEEN one but* then its best to buy one that does and not to place a zipper on one without a zipper.i believe this was their question.a self added zipper would not last long
