Well all my life I've always wanted to be a man, I have dressed like one, have male tendancies what you would discribe as a butch dyke. I have always felt as if im in the wrong body. I have even tried to "be" like a girl tried to dress as one however I dont feel comfotable when I am in womens clothes and when Im touched down there I dont get any gratification. Ive tried to discuss getting a sex change with my best mate who said "that it was a joke" basically and was not in the least bit supportive of my choices. However recently the idea of actually going for it again has come back and I want to do something about it my girlfriend who I have been with for 3 years this saturday is supportive of my choices.

I just wonder how you actually go about doing something like this?? Im live in the England so the system over here is prob much diffrent to what yours is over there (US). Do I just go to the Doctors and say I want a "sex change" I have absolutely no idea how to go about it?!?!?

If someone could help me that would be brillant... hope you can actually understand what I have written.

I think, although I'm not in Britain, that your GP can refer you to a gender clinic that is covered by the NHS to start.

Someone in the UK confirm this?

Yes they can. I'm from the UK

At first i was having problems at work of which my GP referred me to the surgery's councellor where i actually opened up to her about my feelings on the TG issue. We talked about it and she decided it would be best to get my GP to refer me to the nearest gender clinic. All you have to do is ask in my opinion. They may ask you lots of questions about it to make sure that this is what you want, but dont feel turned off by it, it's just general routine.

Depending on where you are in the UK you could be waiting a long time to get your 1st appointment at the gender clinic. I last heard contact with my gender clinic in march and haven't actually even had an appointment with them yet (on a waiting list). And i can say it is the most annoying thing ever.... but i presume worth it in the end.

Good luck! ^_^ There will always be people to support you, whether it be here, your GF or your GP... or maybe even your family.

Its just what do I say when I get in there I am one of those people who when they go to the doctors (which I hate going to) they need to know exactly what to say because I mummble and stutter my words and I just think I will get confused??!!?!

Please help!

Dont you have a walk in center? My docs have a walk in center and i find them damn useful when you give them a call for an appointment and they cant fit you in for at least another month!  :-\

And, really just blurt it out! lol I know it's difficult because i hadn't got a clue what i was going to say... so i opted for the most obvious option and just simply said - "I wana be a guy" lol At least then, the obvious statement is then in the open with your GP for an easy discussion and you dont end up beating around the bush trying to describe what exactly it is  :-\

Hey! Hey! Hey, hey, hey!

Hey well i am not so happy now basically the doctor was surprised and I dont think she actually knew what to say. Which isn't exactly helpful she just asked if my family/friends knew. Basically she said that Norfolk (UK) doesn't have much granting for Transgenders and I would have to go to London for it anyhow.. which is fine for the operations and I kinda guessed that. However she said that the councilling could be done in Norfolk to see if I am "mentally" alright (*hopes*) so thats fine but she said shes going to get back to me and if my counciller desides that im right in the head and he agrees with my disision then I will have to go in frount of a board to decided who gets the surgery with other transgender people because we only have a grant for 3 people from this county which sucks! I think if they take there time then I will just fly to the US and get the surgery done there as its only like £2750 for me so and it would be quicker!

Well for now I will sit and wait to see what they say............................................... I could be waiting for a long time....................... :(

I'm from the UK, the upper half anyway. I was already involved with psychologists and that lot by the time I was fourteen so it wasn't much of a problem for me to move on to someone who could deal with my issues.

I did however go to my GP about my GID. I just said I thought I was transgendered. She wrote a referral to a GID specialist and he started seeing me at my adolescent psychiatry unit (I was too young to go to the local gender clinic) and it went from there.

Well guys I recieved my letter from my doctor today who states that there is a Gender Identity clinc here in Norfolk, my county! Which is excellent! My doctor also states that she has written to the Dr's who work there regarding my matter and they should get back to me sometime in the future! Fingers crossed that its going to be soon! yay!
