Joe.

Ok, so it's late and my mind has gone wandering. I was thinking,  I never really eat a variety of food. Then I thought, there are a wide range of different cultures and people on Susan's who probably eat a lot of different foods. So it got me thinking,  why not have a cooking club thing, where we all say our favourite meals and then we have to pick somebody else's meal and its down to us to research it, and learn how to cook it. Once we've cooked it we upload a photo.  I thought we could all learn new meals and cooking is a great way to keep your mind busy if you're feeling stressed. This might be a silly idea, but I'm curious as to what you all think  :)

Hey, why not? Food is delicious! And it's just in general good.
Living in Europe for 2 years really changed my tastes for the better. I'm not much of a cook, but I did make a garlic pasta once that was just slightly spicy, even my mother and grandmother, who are both Italian cooks, liked it. I didn't really have a recipe for it, but I can try and make one up fast.
But first, I must go to dinner now. You've made me hungry :P
Hey, you've reached Lauren's signature! If you have any questions, want to talk, or just need a shoulder to cry on, leave me a message, and I'll get back to you.

Love the idea!  I'm a hardcore vegetarian but never really learned how to cook too well (I'm working on it, lol). Maybe I'll pick up some nice recipes.

My favorite meal is Vegetable Pakora and Samosas with a side of Vegetable Biryani (rice) and maybe some Naan.  Sort of a big dish, but I love Indian food and only eat it so often.

Lo

Very cool! I love food and cooking (when I remember to eat :s) and will eat just about anything except coconut and raw nuts, and combinations of rich/acidic foods because it can upset my GERD. Soy I avoid for medical reasons.

My recent realm of culinary study has been with traditional Korean and Japanese foods... it's been about a year and I'm still a noob!

My hearth culture, to borrow a term from ADF, is Mexican-American, though. Make me a fat bowl of pozole, or plate of tripas street tacos, and I'm in heaven.

Sounds liked fun!

like learningtolive, I also love Indian food (as well s middle eastern).

You should start a thread in the cooking section. We also have the Susan's cookbook sticky there as well.

Recipes should be printed up into a nice looking cook book and sold to aid in Susan's expenses for this site.

Good idea, LordKAT! We need a catchy title.

I don't know if any of you can be trusted cooking my nearly world famous codfish and Brussels sprouts, though.  >:-)

Hugs, Devlyn

Susan's Plaice: Culinary Resources.

Of course, that requires one of you coming up with a recipe for cooking plaice. ;D

I have been involved in the creation of a cookbook through a "vanity press."  We used TasteBook.com to publish several of my mother's compiled recipes in a ring binder format.  These were meant as family gifts, and were more expensive than one would need for a fundraiser publication.

The categories in the cookbook we made were:

Brunch and Breads
Appetizers and Drinks
Soups and Salads
Sides and Bites
Pasta, Rice, and Grains
Fish and Seafood
Meat and Poultry
Desserts and Treats
Everything Else

Each section had a divider with a stock photograph from Epicurious.

The recipes were compiled in Microsoft Word files.  The format for each recipe included a short preface, ingredients, cooking method, serving suggestions.  We can add a photograph of the finished product, for publishing, we must have the photograph file (not just a link) or a graphic file.

As Susans Place is an international site, I would expect to publish the recipes with both original and metric measurements.  That can be done in editing.

I have edited compendium volumes for my professional societies, know the complexity of the job, and am willing to tackle this project, if we get the go-ahead from the Administration of the site.  I am open to suggestions.  This is a volunteer fundraising project, so the recipes and images submitted must be free of copyright considerations.
