Hello I am 25 years old and have made my first appointment to start taking hormones and the anxiety is starting up. The anxiety isn't about what happens during/after hormones, its about me somehow being unable to take them. so i was wondering if anybody could tell me if there were any reasons someone couldnt take hormones? Thanks :)

The main physical conditions that are looked for are obesity and high blood pressure so of course heart disease will be the main condition for refusal. E can affect blood clotting so stroke and deep vein thrombosis tend to be the key issues that are looked for first. Because of this many endocrinologists are reluctant to give HRT to people who smoke.

How bad would your blood pressure have to be for them to deny you? I exercise, am slightly under weight, and eat healthy but my diastolic is 93. :(

My BP fluctuates, lately it's been in the 140's over 80's, but often drops into the 100's over 60's, and it's not an issue, I'm told.

As a retired Paramedic they usually don't panic unless the diastolic is over 100. If you are worried maybe they will prescribe Spironolactone which is classed as a diuretic and thus has anti-hypertensive properties. I am on "E" and Spiro. It is not uncommon to be on both. This will all of course be decided after a physical exam and lab work. Let the doctors do what they need to. This is information only. Take care!  :)

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better. The idea that I could be denied hrt at this stage in my life is terrifying.

When I was out on my first hospital practice (going to nursing college), I learned a general rule at the geriatric ward that anything below 200 over 100 was good enough, as long as everything else was fine (again, for geriatric patients specifically). Another rule that was mentioned was that normal (but maybe not ideal) systolic pressure is 100 + the patient's age.
