Why thank you for the warm greeting everyone!
Thank you for this site Susan. I've been poking around a bit and those links you pointed out were pretty helpful, I'll be sure to remember this forum as the resource it is.
I am a member of quite a few other forums dealing with art, communal living, and other personal interest but I've never joined a forum with such a opening response. makes a girl fell welcome.

Mercédes is a really pretty name
thank you Willow,
As many of us know Transitioning is a lot to do with Identity issues. unlike other parts of transitioning; deciding on my feminine name came quite easy. Mercédes was my given middle name at birth; later when I was adopted at age 8, my parents renamed me. Reclaiming my name has been very empowering in dealing with these identity issues, It gives me continuity it helps me see who I've always been.
As far as truth and lies; LordKAT and Magdalena pretty much outed me on one truth. I am a traveler; always have been, hope to stay that way. As a child I would read National Geographics under the blankets with a night light, and pour over maps and atlases learning geography, the names of peoples; their languages and their histories, I developed an affinity to peoples and cultures that were/have been subjugated, colonized or suppressed. Seeing how a nation could change it's national Identity in a single generation gave me a profound love and interest in Germany, my years spent there were some of the best years of my life so far. My most recent travels this past summer to the High desert of Nevada taught me about treating ones self gently and cautiously in a harsh uncaring environment, daily temperatures well above 100° and scarce water sources miles apart made me calculate every movement. The juxtaposition of Stark beauty and deadly terrain served as a back drop as I reflected on society and transitioning; how emotional landscapes can be so beautiful yet harsh at the same time.
so yeah, a bit more about me.
oh LorKat I guess that's why I said ...one of the harshest... some day, when I can, perhaps I'll see more of Alaska something beyond the panhandle perhaps.
