catty vs being a bit#h.

So im wondering, at what point does catty cross the line to flat out being a bitch? Im only asking after having a convo with a friend about music when a certain artist came up and suddenly my friend was all she didn't deserve the pinnacle award, she isn't even country but pop and a bunch of other stuff i can't quote or ill get banned.

I think of catty and bitchy as more or less the same thing. Sassy, on the other hand, is like bitchy with a charming impishness. You get a pass for sass with a wink and a smile.

I think catty and "witchy" are two different things.

Catty is being overly critical of other women - taking pleasure in something another woman does badly.

Witchy (even when spelled with a "b") mean projecting a nasty demeanor, regardless of whom you're talking to.

I'm sure they both mean different things depending on who's doing the talking.

Good point. Catty does refer to woman on woman snarkiness. I didn't consider that.

catty: If one is being catty, they are being subtly or indirectly insulting. Different from b*tchy in that b*tchiness is just mean, while cattiness is often clever and witty, and isn't ALWAYS completely mean (for example, a catty joke). Both males and females can be and are catty.

b*tchy: An adjective that's supposed to be used to describe someone irritable, moody and whiny. Even if a person is not b*tchy but rather, honest or blunt, a st*pid person may use "b*tchy" to describe that person. B*tchy is the creative limit when it comes to insults coming from the same st*pid people.

That definition of catty sounds like what I was getting after with "sassy." Although I could be mistaken. It's been known to happen.
