in our culture, it's customary for every girl to wear a pair of gold earrings, starting around age 3 and wearing it until death. since i'm living with my parents i have to wear them, though i've told them i didn't want them they have insisted on wearing them.
the thing is, i've outgrown the pair i had at puberty (which is a big celebration here) and as they are too tight rashes appeared around them, which gave me a wonderful excuse to take the earrings off. i stayed so for a week or so and the rashes got cured, so mom pinned them on me again, promising to buy me a new bigger pair as soon as she can. so she's gonna buy me a bigger pair, which is surely going to be extremely girly. i'm not trying to pass or anything, but i would be very uncomfortable seeing myself with them on. my only chance is that she asked me if there were any patterns i prefer. what kind of earring pattern would be androgenous enough for mom to take as female and for me to take as male? please suggest (my current ones are flowers..yuck)

Plain gold ball? It wouldn't stand out as much as having any design. Or ask for skulls.

I agree with LordKAT; plain as can be or something like skulls or maybe bats. Depending on where you're from and/or what your culture is, you might be able to get a more masculine design if it's a part of that culture (for example, a Dia de Los Muertos skull would work if you lived in a country/culture that celebrates the holiday). Good luck!

no way they don't sell skulls in jewellery shops here and if i wear one people will stare at me as if they see a whole skeleton walking. i too thought about plain gold balls, but i've kept it aside cos its little girls before puberty who wear them usually. so did i. but it is an option. i'll have to see if i come up with a better idea to weigh it off. thanks anyway

I'd say go with simple- squareish, balls, etc. As long as it's not super decorated it won't seem super girly.

there where a time where it where kinda cool to wear this jewely white earing for guys.
I guess usunally it where seen as femenine but it somehow turned out as something also masculine guys could wear.

They aren't some weird thing you can't take off without help right? I would just keep "loosing" them. Parents will stop paying for new ones eventually. Sure they might get mad but I think ones own happiness eventually out rules a parent. It's just being delicate about it. Your old enough now to make your own decisions. Though this is coming from an American who doesn't give a rats ass if my parents hate me. Plus I don't live with them any more.

The larger the stud, the more masculine it looks (see the snoop dogg photo). Circular or diamond shape might work.

i can't do that. gold is expensive and no matter how many times i'd loose them they'll buy me new ones cos its customary. they wouldn't let me stay without them for long in case the piercings might heal themselves. i could protest, but it'll only hurt them. they are already worried that i don't wear dresses, and if i put such a demand they would be worried, and eventually lecture me about the importance of earrings for girls, which i don't want to go through. i'm gonna get rid of them the first thing after i come out to parents or move out, whatever happens first. both will take a few more years, and i  need to cope until then. i don't want to hurt them prior to that.

oh i almost forgot this thread existed, mostly because we postponed buying earrings until the end of this month. thanks night haven, and others posted above, i think i have some idea of what i'd choose. i dumped the idea of getting gold balls, as this butch lesbian i know wears the same and i don't really want to look like her. i'll have to see the options at the shop anyway. i'll post here what i purchase finally

I'm probally late but I'd suggest buying earins that look more masculine I were them but I wear the ones for men or that men typically wear
