Hey, I just went to the Against Me! show in Vermont a couple days ago, and Laura Jane Grace was unbelievable and gorgeous and the band rocked! I would post pictures if I could get them off my scrappy cell phone. Is anyone else going to the am! show near you?

If they ever make it to Los Angeles, definitely!

One of the things that got my ball(s?) really rolling mentally was when I read about LJG/Tom Gabel in Rolling Stone in (I think) June, 2012.  By the time I was done reading the article, I was trembling and weeping.  I mean, I never allowed myself to really explore that possibility mentally for more than a few minutes at a time before I'd force myself quash that notion, but after reading that article, I remember there was that little voice in my head that said, "What the hell are you waiting for?"  Within six months that little voice turned into an angry, sad, desperate woman screaming almost constantly, and it became impossible to ignore, deny or suppress.

LJG definitely had a big part in where I am now, and I'd love to meet her.

That's great! She really is my hero coming out so publicly and her wife has been completely supportive which is awesome! She had a similar effect on me. I was already teetering towards coming out, and when I heard the news about her, that kind of led me to finally take the plunge. The show was incredible, didn't get to meet her tho :( but just being in her presence and seeing her live was so amazing! The thing is, I have been an against me fan since 2001 when I was in hs, and saw them live in 2005 at my tiny state college in Vermont with a crowd of about 20-30 people. I'm sure they'll be coming to L.A. on this tour, it just started.

As soon as they come nearby I will definitely go.  Against Me! was one of the few bands that survived me growing out of my "I'm so punk" phase.  In fact in the four years I was in the military, Against Me! was the only concert I ended up going to.  A year later the Rolling Stone article came out and gave me a big boost.
"Choosing to be true to one's self — despite challenges that may come with the journey — is an integral part of realizing not just one's own potential, but of realizing the true nature of our collective human spirit. This spirit is what makes us who we are, and by following that spirit as it manifests outwardly, and inwardly, you are benefiting us all." -Andrew WK
