I'm curious, what is your biggest concern when it comes to top surgery?

Mine is that they would mix me up with someone else and make the boobs bigger instead of removing them.

I think that is one of those kinds of fears people have pre-surgery. I had a dream right before my pre-op-- I have a cyst that was removed and it has left a strange scar, well he said he couldn't do the surgery because of it. Well the day of my pre-op, he looked at it and said, "that was a cyst?" Although it was more of a statement. I've heard of guys fearing they were just cut and nobody took anything. I said, "But that would be difficult to explain during the reveal!"  I think if you go to a top surgeon, the odds of it happening are 0%. They don't do any of them at all. A plastic surgeon who does other procedures, I still don't think it could happen. But I think it is one of those kind of irrational fears people have. As I said, it would be hard to explain wouldn't it!!

I was afraid that some sort of natural disaster, financial disaster, or my car exploding, or the zombie apocalypse or anything else would prevent me from getting the surgery done.

I've waited over 3 years for it and I was scared stiff that it wouldn't happen for some reason.  Fortunately it did and everything went really well to plan.

Having had a ton of surgery growing up, my genuine only concern is that I get sick before it and have to postpone!

I was so worried about this I got a flu shot, something I never do.

My biggest concern is my pre-op bloodwork at the moment.   I won't know until just 3 days before my surgery whether or not it came back clear - because they will be out of the office until then.

So it's highly unlikely, but my fear is that I'll spend all this money, book the time off work, fly to Sydney - get there and then be told that the surgery can't go ahead because something showed up in my bloodwork.

Geez, that would be absolutely horrible.

I had the strangest experience.  I had absolutely NO anxiety or worries from the moment I stepped off the plane all the way through the entire thing.  It is strange for me because I worry about stupid ->-bleeped-<-.  But, I had not one moment of nervousness or anything, even while I was laying there for 5 hours waiting to go in!  Weird!

I was very anxious and when I saw Dr. G, I became a lot calmer. I think he kind of exudes calm and so on.
But it is normal to have all kinds of anxieties and fears. You are doing a huge surgery and it is normal to feel anxiety and even odd fears.

My biggest concern is that when I try to get medical clearance, they find out that I have some type of medical condition that will prevent me from getting top surgery done.

Other concerns:

That my plane crashes before I can get to the surgery center or I get into a car wreck

New Beginnings Retreat closes down, so I have to hire a private nurse

Right when I have enough money to book, something happens that forces me to use all of my top surgery funds....or the price increases before I can book a date.

It is nice to see I'm not alone with some off these fears. I'm saving up for top surgery am going to have it done late summer early fall but being100% self pay cause no insurance.... A rouge bill could hinder that, hopefully not. But on the plus side I met my endo Dr. The end of October! For my first dose of testosterone!!!

Congrats on your upcoming T shot!  I'm aiming to have my top surgery done around the same too....hopefully by July.

I was afraid that I would die on the table and that he wouldn't finish the surgery.

*nods* me too. Even when I was sat in the hospital waiting to go in I was still not convinced it was actually going to happen and something would come up

My biggest fear is that insurance will somehow fall through and trans related care will no longer be part of that plan. I'm counting on it to come through.
The more I know, the more I know I don't know.

Wow congratulations! Looks like we'll be transitioning around the same time because I also get my first T shot in October.

This is so funny because the guy is only in his 40's!

You know, I don't even know who I would have used if I didn't use Garramone.  Maybe Fischer, her DI is better than most realize, I think; she is also close to me.  I am not sure that I would have traveled for anyone but Garramone.

Will you get getting your surgery before the next insurance renewal?  Personally, I would jump on it just in case your company removes trans related care for the next round.  I have never heard of that happening, though.  I think that more states will also be requiring all insurance companies to have trans related care.

Omg that was one of my biggest fears too: either him retiring or dying before I can get my top surgery.  If that were to happen, I would be devastated....even more devastated than when my fiance left me, lol.  That's part of the reason why I want to get my consultation and book a date asap.  If that were to ever happen, I figured I'd have back ups (Medalie, Crane, Rockmore, and Alter come to mind) just in case.
