There is a wonderful 4-year old topic in this section, posted by the retired moderator, Julie Marie, asking why you came to Susans Place (HERE).  My answers in her poll were, "To gain knowledge," "To gain confidence," and "To find inner peace."  It is a testament to the site how people say come here for the information and support resources.  I want Susan's to become the place for transgender community resources.

Today, I complete my second year here, as a member (LOL - I lurked for so long - months before that).  I feel fortunate that I found the three things I was looking for.  However, I got much more than I bargained for  8)  I found friends who understand me.

In the United States, we are beginning the week that includes the National Holiday of Thanksgiving (it is this coming Thursday).  I would like to take a few sentences to thank some of the people who have enriched my life.  I will save them the embarrassment of being named, but you know who you are.

There is a lovable bear of a guy in North Carolina who has a heart of gold.  And a longsuffering gal in the UK who has patiently walked me through my crises.  A young guy in NY who helped pry open my cold, closed heart.  An Australian wench with the most expansive collection of whips and branding irons - and a loving heart.  A warm and erudite Canadian who is wise far beyond her years.  A funny and vivacious gal in Massachusetts who, I hope, never graduates.  A sweetheart on the coast who doesn't know what a wonderful friend she has really been.  A witty, big-hearted, and wise Washingtonian who could cheer up the most down-hearted soul with a kind comment.   My gurus in the Androgyne Forest - and there are many!  And a terrifically talented young lady in Arlington who has taught me more than she will ever know.

I should add, too, lovely guys and gals all over the country who have a keen political sense and are, in my book, true patriots.   And my young friends all around the globe - I do my best to make sure you don't have the difficult and unhappy youth that I had.  In my two years here, I have met so many people, from so many countries, and each has added to my understanding of the world, the community, and best of all, myself.  I came here completely alone, but I will exit rich in friends and better for the experience.

Lastly, I need to thank Susan.  She has friends here that reach back many years - I am really a newbie.  But this is her vision, and it is my pledge to the best of my ability, to help her see it through.

Who are you thankful to have in your life?

In these pages I found knowledge and wisdom, friends and family, support and hope.  I found a home as real as the one I am sitting in right now.

I would not be alive if it were not for this site.

Hugs to all,

Jen
To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

Thank you Jamie for reminding me of that thread. I went back and looked at my entry it was:

To be not alone.

To offer help as others have helped me.

I have arisen from a lonely and dark part of life thanks to you all.

I do not think I could survive the unspeakable horror of being in the wrong body without the love of you all.

Cindy
