Hey everyone, I am looking to get married next fall.  I have changed my name and gender on my social security card and on my drivers license but I have not changed my birth certificate.  Do any of you know if I need to show my birth certificate to obtain a marriage license in NYS?  If yes how much of a hassle is it to change your birth certificate in NYS, I don't live in the city I live in upstate NY.  Thanks everyone.

I don't have any specific information for you, but you should be able to locate this information by going to the site of the specific jurisdiction where you plan to get married. If that site is anything like the one in my city, it will list acceptable forms of documentation.

Yes, it appears that unless you can show one of the other accepted proofs of age under your new name/gender you'll have to show your BC.

If you look here (once you scroll down), you'll see the requirements to change a NYS birth certificate (which also unfortunately is more onerous than in many of the other states).

Good luck!

This site has general info: http://www.health.ny.gov/publications/4210/
I think you contact them to find out. Looks like NY will marry you regardless of gender. But I would suppose youd' want to be listed as male.

It's a pain. I haven't done it yet. I have a copy of the form you need to fill out and the requirements if you wanted me to email you the PDF. This information is from an email I sent to NYS. It doesn't let me copy & paste the info and it's kind of long to type out.

Thanks for all the replies.  JesseO, that would be very much appreciated if you could email me that information.  I believe that my email information is available in my profile. Thanks again.

Maybe you can marry in a different state?

New Jersey doesn't require a BC to get married. They require some ID/passport, and a SS card. Something to consider. Check out the NJ vital Statics webpage for more information.
