Need Help On Finding A Surgeon! Insurance? Cost?

Hi,

I'm looking for some help in what direction to go in. My best friend is a ftm. He's been on hormones for almost two years. He has already has his top surgery, but he still needs all of the bottom surgeries. We live in the US so we have yet to find any insurance that will even cover some of the surgery, so now we're looking out of country. He is interested in getting a Phalloplasty and is looking at using either back or forearm graft. I know that some surgeries turn out pretty bad or the surgeons aren't very good. Cost is also an issue. Does anyone have any surgeons they can  recommend (pics is a plus but I can try and email them / hunt them down) I'm primarily looking at price and location right now. He's been saving up money and is really interested in getting the first stage done (hysto/vaginectomy etc)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Also, I don't suppose anyone has found a way to get insurance to cover anything? Anyone know if the new Obama care laws will help at all with that issue?

Also, I have heard that BCBS of Michigan does cover, but I live in Iowa so that's out. What are some health insurances that cover some or all SRS?

Alright...So next question is...I know that bottom surgery must be done in 3 steps. What are all the steps that are done in step 1? Maybe I can find a surgeon who will do step one for a bit cheaper, and then at least its progress.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a meto and then have a phallo done later if you're not satisfied with the results? We're looking into that for several different reasons (cost being a big one). I've heard of a couple guys doing that, but i haven't really been able to find any results or any risks or if it costs more or less etc anywhere.

Yes, you can get a meta and then a phallo later.  You might find yourself satisfied with the meta.  Sometimes it's not size that you need, but a penis.

Okay, that is good to know. Do you know if it ends up costing less or reducing some of the risks involved, since the testicular implants would already have been done and some of the urethral lengthening needed?

That I don't know, as I didn't get a phallo. I just know it is possible, and other guys have done it.  The details would be up to the individual surgeon.
