"From what I've seen fashion sense is not encoded in the "female brain."  It takes most women years to develop and refine their personal style, and we all know some who never do."  - Anne Boedecker

It is likely that I will be somewhat older and much poorer or much older and somewhat poorer before I get it right.  Either way it's a daunting thought.  Sheesh...

Try Goodwill my favorite store, most things are around 5 bucks and you can take them back if they don't fit.

My mom cultivated my fashion sense when I was a teen. I know what colors look good on me and stay with conservative styles.

I've purchased 95% of my clothing from Goodwill and thrift sales.

I've been to Goodwill five times in the last four days.  On trip one I bought a nice top without trying it on.  (Not ready for that yet...)  Too small.  Trip two - based on that experience I went again the next day.  Bought another a sexy red top which fits well.  Trip three - walked in, looked around, saw the crowds in the ladies department, and left without anything.  Trip four - bought a light blue blouse and what I thought was a neat choker in a sealed bag.  The blouse is O.K. (Actually I don't really care for it.  It has rather manly pocket covering my left breast.  How I failed to see that as the store is beyond me.  Probably just nervousness.) but the choker turned out to be a bracelet, actually three bracelets one which is so large it falls off my hand, and the other so small I can't fasten the clasp.  Trip five - I summoned up the courage to return the top from trip one.  I had the item and slip, but didn't realize the ramifications of having removed a Goodwill price tag.  The first two individuals passed me on to the manager.  He required some personal information and an explanation of why they are reluctant to receive returned goods without the price tag.  I found another blouse which was a size larger than my initial purchase.  Took it home and tried it on.  It's a bit too small.  One out of five purchases wholly pleasing.  What's a girl to do but smile and chalk it up as another experience x 5.

Been there done that several times. Forgot to say don't remove tags, sorry.Once you get an Idea what size you are things will be easier at least at goodwill your not wasting a lot of money. A tip for pants or skirts fold something that fits you and measure across the top mine is 15-16.5 inches will fit my waist size 10-12. Carry a cloth tape with you then measure what you want to buy if it fits your range go for it.You can try the same time with blouses across the shoulders.
As far as crowds just wade in and have fun at 6'3" I get a few looks but so what I have found some great high dollar clothes there and and stop every chance I get, And you will find out how few people pay any attention to you. Happy shopping!  Pat

Thanks for the encouraging words, Pat.  Your kindness is appreciated.  For time being I have to lay off the shopping, at least shopping for myself, and give my meager bank balance a chance to recover.  It is also likely that in the spirit of holiday cheer, Goodwill will get a donation of some very briefly worn female clothing.
