So tomorrow is a big day for me. My first HRT appointment  :)

My wife is supportive and asked me if I wanted her to come with me to my first appointment. I'm really on the fence about this. This is something I want to do on my own, but at the same time I appreciate the support she has been giving. We went out the other day and did some girl clothes shopping together at the mall. Due to tomorrow's work schedule, logistically speaking it would be inconvenient to have to pick her up in the middle of the day prior to my appointment since I will be at a client 15 minutes from my appointment but would have to drive an extra hour for her to come. I told her I wanted to do this alone, and she seemed a little disappointed but she said she understood.

For those with Significant Others, did they come with you to your first HRT appointment? and did you find it helpful if they did? Maybe I should reconsider?

My wife came to the first appointment, and I ended up being glad she did. Not only was she better able to listen and ask questions (I was too excited!), but it meant a lot to her to be part of the process - and given how much suffering the whole transition idea was causing her, I wanted to do whatever it took to make her feel included/comfortable. Only you can judge how much it would matter to your wife or how much you would mind it, though.

This was reason #2 to ask her to come along.

#1 you already sort of answered for me. She asked! Yes, in a round about way to offer you an out. Also to not rain on your parade. But I am sure she feels she needs to be there. Not only to show her support for such a step but also for reason #2 above. To ask the questions you will not think of plus others she is concerned over for herself.

I would ask her to come even if you kind of are against it. She is along for the ride, like it or not. Only through me being totally open and honest with my wife (while carefully avoiding the TMI saturation point) and her her always being "pathologically honest" have we been able to ride this roller coaster together.... so far

I would strongly recommend involving your wife in this process. Remember, it's her transition, too!

In addition to the points already raised, I suspect that having my spouse declare her support for my transition to the endo helped expedite my prescription. I obviously can't be sure, but I suspect that, had she been negative or absent, they're may have been a greater delay.

Thank you for everyone's advise!

I did ask her to come if she wanted to and she did want to. When we woke up this morning my wife was suffering from a migraine headache and was unable to come along. Today was mostly about blood work, going over any questions and resources in the area. (If you live in the NYC Area, Callen-Lorde is great to use.) The listed resources they give you range from (most of which is on their website) from Electrolysis, to legally changing your name and gender mark.

I just had blood work back in July for the Finasteride and they didn't need to do another. I have my appointment with the endocrinologist  on Thursday and they have their own pharmacy I will be able to use right there. The RN said everything looked good on my blood work that I gave her and everything looks like a go  ;D

So now it's official, I start HRT on Thursday, Dec 12.

Also my wife's migraine is starting to lift now, so she is feeling better. She hasn't read the info yet as she doesn't want another headache from reading all the info given to me, LOL
